I love the idea of the Mawloc, but without fail i DS him and either 1) My opponent stacks his units next to the edge and I get a mishap or I scatter off and hit nothing. Then once I do arrive get killed with plasma/grav/ect. Nothing sucks worse than landing on target, then rolling a few ones to wound and getting the mishap them. I have two ideas to help with this. Idea one let after the pie plate, the unit may take an initiative test to get out of the way by moving the shortest distance to be one inch away from the Mawloc's base. If they fail the attack continues. Repeat until the Mawloc may be placed. (note this may mean the squad is wiped out.) Idea two is if at least one unsaved wound is made following terror from the deep, you receive +1 to the deep strike mishap chart. If an effective 7 is rolled the Mawloc is immediately placed into plat per Deep-strike rules (yes you would have a 1 in six shot at doing it all over again.

In it's present state the Mawloc is near useless against multi wound models as you are almost guaranteed to mishap with him. I think the ability to have your unit not kill itself outright because it didn't get quite a big enough mouthful. This would help to avoid scattering off table, but it would mean it could be worth the risk to attack harder dug in units, looking at you cent devs.

Any other unit that scatters onto another unit (except pods, of course) is going to mishap regardless. The Mawloc's gimmick isn't that it can't mshap, just that it can cause some damage in the event it scatters onto an enemy.

Actually, that's pretty much its whole trick - it's more or less intended to deep strike onto an enemy unit on purpose.

Take that away, and you have a mediocre CC monstrous creature that can't charge the turn it arrives and can't shoot at all. So, it's not so much a gimmick as it is the core mechanic of the whole beastie. The problem is, there's a distinct risk of losing the Mawloc outright when doing that.

I rather like the second idea, though - if you did any damage at all there's no risk of being destroyed outright.

Mawloc is fine imo. Maybe if a synapse creature is within intended striking spot, it scatters less.
Also turn 1 dives could benice again.

But new codex on the horizon..

Only change i see the Mawloc needs regarding its burrow is it should be allowed to burrow into assault.

Its too easy to remove these days and its a sitting duck the turn it arrives waiting for the next turn so it can charge.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
