I tried googling this, but didn't find any really great results, so forum:

For hovertanks and the like, how do you like to stabilize the wobbly bases?

I use 1/4 inch magnets on the flight stand (use 'ring' magnets, they fit over the flight peg) and on the bottom of the model.

I use very strong grade rare earth magnets for the part on the hull (N52 rating).

If this does not seem to be enough, I will put a 1/4" socket on the bottom of the skimmer as well to improve stability (say, fora necron ghost ark).

I use 1/4" inside diameter tube to make the sockets.

Clip off the little peg at the top.
Make the hole in the body bigger using a round needle file.
Because the main stem of the stand is conical in shape, it will always fit & will stay in place with friction (ie no need to glue it so easier to pack away).

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

^^ What he does ^^.

Bigger models get magnets, though (My Valkyries are secured with 2x 10mmx3mm magnets on custom stands).

I bought a bag of 60mm wooden disks at a craft shop with holes pre-drilled in the center - I think they were labelled as "doll joints" or some such. I then bought a box of 1/4" x 35mm countersink bolts and a box of corresponding nuts. I ran the bolts through the disks and secured them with a nut and dosed it with superglue. I used basing material to cover up the nut. I then drilled out the flight stand hole on my skimmers to be big enough to take one of the nuts and glued it in place.

Now, when I set up for a game, I screw the stands into place and there is no wobble whatsoever. Considering I run 9 skimmers in my DE army, this is huge. Well worth the trouble and easy to do. I've gotten a lot of compliments.

I wish I could take the credit for it, but I saw a tutorial for it elsewhere online and realized how easy it would be. I'd thank them for it if I could!

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
