I... actually don't know. Help?

What are the best Fantasy (I refuse to call it AoS!) kits to use in 40K, for both conversion, swaps and counts as? I personally recommend most Dwarf kits for Viking-y Space Wolves, and pretty much all Chaos kits for... well, Chaos. Orks are obvious.

Empire infantry and brettonian infantry for weird retro humans (inquisitor and old IG)
Ogre kingdoms stuff for ogryns
Dark elfs for Dark eldar
Chaos warriors for chaos space marines
Perhaps some lizardman bits for salamanders?

I know Night Lords types over on B&C love the Vampire Counts range.

Goblins (especially the more poseable old kits) are great for grots/gretchins - I made all my artillery crew that way.

And of course any skeletons and zombies are useful for 'piles of corpses' scenery

Stormvermin with Skitarii weapons and backpacks look decent as futuristic rat-things. You'll have to shave the cowl at the front of the model though, it tends to get in the way of the arms/weapons. I also took the crests of the helmets to make the heads look sleeker and more ratty. Certainly prefer them to the Mantic Veer-myn.

Also a cheap way to make a unit of jezzails - use the Ranger rifles or the transuranic arquebus (the massive long rifle in the Skitarii kit).

A mate used Skitarii leftovers with the Frostgrave fantasy plastics to make some decent cultists/scavengers.

The classic mix is Cadians+ Empire Militia (sorry, Free Company) and Flagellants to get some low-tech planetary militia (mix in some third-party guns too). The Flagellants have a great mix of weird and wonderful accessories - I've made a Guard priest carrying a bell and holy book, and a Guard psyker using the head with the bandaged eyes.

Many of the weapons/arms and heads from the Empire Pistoliers box are also great - cut the barrel off a Cadian grenade launcher and replace it with one of the multi-barrelled Pistolier guns for a neat Gothic-looking stubber. Pistolier helmets and cloaks are also good for fancying up officers.

Some of the spares from the Dryad sprues look a little like tentacles - useful for those Lost and the Damned conversions.

A box of Forsaken is great to have when you want to do creepy Chaos mutations.
