Greetings,

I am hoping to find some advice. 8-9 years ago a friend got me into 40k. I enjoyed it, and after the 4th game we played he talked me into playing d&d, and never played 40k again.

I have moved, and am looking to find some new friends and gamers to nerd out with. I never fully learned the rules, but really enjoyed the few games of 40k that I played.

Below is a list of an army that I bought on eBay cheaply. My goal is to expand and then customize to make it my own. I also want to make sure that I am getting the correct codex. There is a named character that seems to be listed as a ultra marine and marine. i would also like any suggestions on models to add to the army. I hope to get the army up to about 1500. Lastly if anyone has a vague idea of point value of this current Amy list that would be awesome.

I have VERY limited info on this army as far as equipment. I have not received it yet to try and look it up more. You will also note that this seems to be apart of a larger army that has been split up. I don't even know if this "army" is actually usable as an army. I figure worst case scenario I got some figures to practice my painting on.

1 dreadnought
29 space marines
1 apothecary
1 librarian
1 chaplain
1 tech marine
5 terminators
1 Marneus Calgar

Paid $35

P.S. The few games I played before I did have terminators with dual lightening claws, and they rolled around in a land raider crusader. I really enjoyed this and think I would thrown Marneus in with the 5 termites, and roll them around. Thoughts?

Thank you guys so much happy thanks giving.

Hello! Cool list of Space Marines (especially for $35!) and to play you only really need two troop units and one HQ so you should be fine, although that list has a lot of HQ units so you may not want to use them all in one game.

The correct codex you should get is Codex: Space Marines and as to what to add, I would probably get an Assault/Veteran squad and a tank (which one though is open to discussion )

Well, I hope this helps
P.S Terminators in a Land Raider? Cool!

Thank you for the reply. Unless something has changed, termies can ride in a land raider crusader, but each term takes 2 spots. So I think you can only put 6 in there.

Now is the correct codex the space marines Ardeptus Astartes? Or is it simply "space marines"?

here is the codex you want to buy, http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Codex-Space-Marines-2015-ENG (sorry it's the english site, just switch the site to the american one and you should be fine) it will provide you with the rules for your army but not the game, I suggest you either find a local club or buy a copy of the 40k rulebook so you can learn the rules as the rulebook has changed quite a lot since you last played.

as for what you have there I would recommend taking
1 librarian
2 sqauds of 10 marines
1 squad of nine marines (put the librarian in this squad)
1 dreadnought
5 terminators

just for starting out as it gives you a bound list and you will be able to add pretty much whatever you like.
feel free to take the apothecary or chaplain as well just don't take both as well as the librarian as it will make the list unbalanced.
dont bother with the techmarine untill you get some vehicles as they are only there to repair them
calgar will cost too many points to be worth taking until you have a much bigger army.

I would advise buying 3 rhinos to put those marine squads into move them about.
a land raider would be a good choice as well as you can use them to transport your terminators, to begin with buy a phobos pattern land raider (a regular one) rather than a crusader as it will provide you with some anti vehicle weaponry.only buy a crusader if you plan to put a character in the unit of terminators.
hope this helps.

Hello and welcome to 40K!

You're looking for codex: space marines this one -
http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Codex-Space-Marines-2015-ENG

And there is a primary detachment in there called a gladius strike force that lets you combine formations in the codex.

The primary formation is the Battle Demi-Company - and its exactly what it sounds like, half a company of space marines led by a captain which you have (almost)

Battle Demi-Company

1 Captain or Chaplain
0-1 Command squad
3 tactical squads
1 assault, bike, attack bike, land speeder, or centurion assault squad
1 devestator or centurion devastator squad
0-1 units of dreadnaughts, ironclad dreds, or venerable dreds

That should cover a little over half your list and there are more formations to include everything else you want.

Terminators in a landraider is always fun (maybe not the best these days) but don't let that stop you! (I do it still)

Your apothecary would be in the command squad.

Do yourself a favour and download the free army builder app battlescribe here http://www.battlescribe.net/ when you make your list it also comes with some of the rules and helps you make lists a lot faster.

When you make a new roster Add a Force from the Catalogue: Space Marines: Codex (2015) and the Force Type 'SM Gladius Strike Force' OR 'Formation detachment' (if you want just a group of formations) OR a 'Combined Arms Detachment' which is the classic 1-2 HQs 6 troops, 3 fast attack, 3 heavy etc (but I suggest use the formations for the benefits they give you)
