So I'm a little confused as to what these books are. I have the new tau codex, I was wondering what these 2 supplements are, and how the 2 books (Mont'ka and Kauyon) are different.

I'm not super interested in the fluff. I'm more interested in whether or not there are any additional rules, formations, etc that are not included in the 7th edition Tau Codex.

Rulewise Kauyon doesn't have much that isn't the codex - just the fortifications.

Mont'ka has a bunch of new formations and looks to have other stuff besides.

Kayoun has everything tau codex 7th has that wasn't in 6th, fortifications, missions, ravenguard and white scars.

Montka is FSE remake. (mostly the same, but got their own decurion, some rule patching) plus missions, Cadians and a few tau formations that are outside the decurions.

There are some nice new formations for Tau and a detachment that lets you take all suits as your choice choice. Rules for the Eight, some new relics and traits.

Plus formations and a detachment for guard. Nothing amazing but the detachment is very low tax.
