So a while back I bought some space marine models from a friend to convert to Chaos. I got a lot more than I really need for that though, and until chaos space marines gets a decent (non deamonkin) book I really don't want to play them anyway. However, I do know once I finish building up Necrons, I'd like to get into Grey Knights or Space Wolves, the only two space marine armies I like. Since I already have models, how hard would it be to convert them to either army? In addition, how would you guys recommend I do it?

Space Wolves would be far the easiest. Basically, what you'll want to do it buy a couple of the main Space Wolf Power Armour boxes when you start the project, then mix and match those with the regular SM stuff, The SW sets have so many extra bits and pieces that can really help you turn normal marines into very convincing Space Wolves, plenty of heads, talismans, shoulder pads, furs ect. and nice wolfy weapons.

If I did Grey Knights, would the theory be similar? Or would there be more steps involved with like green stuff?

The thing is with Grey Knights is that they have distinctive weapons and the best builds include terminators that are completely different to vanilla marine versions. Space wolves are, as Para has said by far the easier option. Grey knights would require the purchase of more kits and alot more work. I would echo para and say go wolves as it should be pretty easy.

Baron, don't forget to talk about the SEALs and Marines you habitually beat up on 2 and 3 at a time, as you PM'd me about.

Perhaps it is a lube issue, seems obvious now.

Alright then. Kinda sucks since I like the look and idea of Grey Knights more, but I'll live.

Would buying the non-tactical marine space wolf stuff work as well for getting extra bits? I'm not sure if I really need 40 tactical marines
