With the horus heracy box set that was released I thought I would try something different.I don't have the box set (YET) but this isd what I thought.
I don't know much about the fluff of 40K and want to paint each model a different paint scheme to represent a different chapter. Giving me and my 8year old son the chance to learn about each chapter as we glue that model and paint it in its chapter colours.
It would be a very colourfull army so to distinguish the two teams I will have the bases be very distinctive.
My question is this, there are so many chapters out there, what chapters should be represented and in what units.
As there will only be one model for each chapter it is going to be a long and tedious but fun project to have on the side. And once all the minis are done it should be a nice glimpse into the different chapters.
All coments will be taken into account and I will be compiling a full list of all the models and how many of them in the game until then please comment if you have any ideas.

And big thanks to all that has helped this far and those still to help.
This is a list of the founding legions, when there is an X at the end it will show that the unit and unit number has bees taken.

Easiest way to do it would be to focus on the 18 founding chpaters, and maybe a few notable second founding chapters like the Black Templars.

Thanks, that's a start. Will try google that, cause when I search space marine chapters there are hundreds of them.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'd say the 18 founding chapters, then the more important ones, like Crimson Fists or the Black Templars.

That's the 18. I will have to seperate the loyal and traitor legions. This is a good start so far. Just waiting to get a detailed list of all the models in the box set.

What a great ad lovely project to start on with your son. Should be fantastic fun for the both of you.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Space_Marine_Legion

This'll give you loads of background info and then links to each of the founding 18 for yet more fluff, colour schemes etc. The fluff is great and some like to stick to it religously but it can be as piable as you like.

Enjoy your project and have a great time

30x Tactical marines MK IV Plate
5x Catapharctii Terminators
1x Contemptor with Lascannon, Melta, Assault Cannon and CCW
1x Captain Aethon
1x Kurtha Sedd
That's the models in the box set, I assume its two sets of these, one set for lyol and one set for traitor. Is this correct?

That is what you get in the set total. As far as breaking down Loyalists and Traitors for the game itself, it's 10 Marines, 5 Terminators and the Captain for the Loyalists and the rest for the Traitors.

Those two are the obvious two that will be assigned.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'd say make the 'big' chapters into Terminators. Like SW, BA, DA, UM and a Chaos one?
