I was wondering why this pencil cost so much: http://www.games-workshop.com/fr-FR/XS-Artificer-Layer-Brush .
15€ for a pencil ? It is more than the double compared to the other pencils from GW.

This one too is made ( also from GW) http://www.games-workshop.com/fr-FR/M-Layer-Brush in sable / zibeline (whatever this animal is called in english^^)
So I don't get it...

It costs so much because it's a GW brush, and their main target market is people who don't know about shopping elsewhere. Just go to your local art supply store and buy your brushes for less money.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Ah ah Peregrine is everywhere here on Dakka
But the other pencils don't cost so much, that the point of this thread.
What is special with this one ?

It is more expensive due to material and construction.

In an art store this type of brush would be more expensive than a regular brush, but it would not cost quite as much as GW charge.

Exactly. Brushes are available in a wide range of quality, with better ones obviously costing more. In this case GW has probably stuck their logo on a high-end brush* instead of their usual lower-end stuff because fine detail brushes are where you get the most return from buying high-end brushes. You could go to your local art store and get a whole set of brushes like this, if you're willing to pay for them.

*IIRC GW doesn't actually manufacture their own brushes/tools/etc, they just take the same stuff you can get at your local art or hardware store, put a GW logo on it, and increase the price. It's almost never worth buying stuff like this from GW because it's literally the same as you can get elsewhere except more expensive. It's just a trap for non-gamers buying gifts and/or kids who don't know any better.

the new line of Citadel brushes are synthetic, but the Articifer is sable...
natural sable is more expensive than synthetic, but works way better, and lasts a lot longer...
my Windsor & Newton and DaVinci brushes were bought back in 2007, and just needed replacing last month...

the Articifer is about the size of a 0, which can run $10 for Rosemary & Co., $15 for Windsor & Newton, or $18 for Scharff (Secret Weapon has them for a nice discount)...
Scharff is from France, so you might find them on discount close to you, godard...
Rosemary & Co. are probably the best bang for your Euro, especially if you can find them locally, and save shipping...

i got the Articifer for half price, and it has been my go-to brush for the last six months...
now that i have a new set of Scharff brushes, the Articifer is my metalics brush...
it's a great brush, but is certainly not priced competitively...

cheers
