My gaming group is thinking of doing a massive brawl between all the Space Marine characters to see who would come out on top. This is strictly for CC only, I am aware some charactesrs such as Khan aren't CC beatsticks, but provide amazing utility for the army that makes them a worthwhile addition. In addition, this wouldn't include generics, such as IH Chapter Master, or Wolf Lord on TWC.

Which got me thinking, who makes your top five and for what reasons?

Lysander: unjustifiably tough, 2+, 3++, 4++, 5++, 5+ feel no pain, eternal warrior, str10....

Calgar: also a massive beat stick, but i5 power fists are even better.

3. Lemans Russian
4. Memphiston
5. Dante

But don't forget that chaos marines are still marines. Abaddon and kharn are just as good if not better.

In no particular order.

1. Sammael - Hit and Run, 2+/4++, EW, and attacks at Initiative with an MC AP2 Sword. Get him a Ravenwing Command Squad for FNP, because why not.

2. Commander Dante - Hit and Run, 2+/4++, EW, stupidly high initiative(I7 on the Charge), Furious Charge (Str 7 on the Charge), MC AP2 weapon, A6 on the charge. Attach him to a Sanguinary Priest for FNP and +1 WS (WS7!).

3. Lysander - 2+/3+++, FNP. EW. MC Str 10 AP1 Hammer, 4W. This guy is damn near impossible to kill and will smash anything in his path. Can go toe to toe with just about anything in the game and stand a good chance of winning. Becomes even more hilarious in a squad of Terminators.

4. Pedro Kantor - 2+/4++, FNP. No EW, so not as survivable as the other people on this list. Auto-buffs himself to have A5 with a Power Fist. Put him in a blob of Honour Guard with a Chapter Banner, and let the magic happen. A squad of 10 Honour Guard with Pedro Kantor does something like 75+ attacks on the charge. NOTHING can survive that.

5. Calgar - 2+/4++, EW, 5 Str 8 AP2 on Initiative. Has a Power Sword for some reason. Can take TDA for some reason. Put him in a Melee Command Squad with Storm Shields and a Banner or a blob of Honour Guard with a Banner for maximum murder.

Honorable Mention: Mephiston (no AP2)
Honorable Mention the Second: Take Azrael. Put him in a 15-man blob of Death Company. Watch the magic happen when your Death Company refuse to die.

An Iron Hands Chapter Master from the Supplement on a bike is insane, depending on what weapons you take. For the price, the Axe Of Medusa gives a Master Crafted AP2 S6 weapon, and with the Chains you're pretty damn durable.

Dont forget Logan Grimnar on stormrider. Laugh at the model all you want, but he can bring some serious hurt. 6 attacks at I5 S6 Ap3 or I1 S8 Ap2. The sled is AV12 with a 4++ which can put him out of harms range of some characters strength. Now add 4 S5 rending attacks and 1D6 S6 HOW attacks and he can just add layers of hurt.

Another vote for Dante. Dunno the maths but i'm sure he'll do well. AP2 at initiative is just brutal.

Mephiston without ap2 is his dealbreaker. But iron arm and/ the quickening could be fun.
+3 atks and I, and +3 T. Possibly hitting on 2s if he's lucky

My vote goes to Draigo, simply the best.

Draigo, psyker abilities, titan sword, shield.
I don't know enough of the other named characters, but those are my top 3.

I actually forgot about Draigo. If he actually makes it to combat, S9 AP2 Force at I5 kills about everything, and then add 3++/EW.

dante - volume of attacks at good stats and table mobility are virtually without peer

logan grimnar - hits like a mac truck but thats all hes got going for him really

marneus calgar - he has a strength d fist of death attack if you use the blood oath supplement good for those hard to reach eternal warrior places but its strong on his own

generic chapter master - oddly enough hes probably the toughest to kill in this list because of how bloody broken iron hands and codex marines relics tables are with essentially free invul save boosts and eternal warrior that you can stack on some really ridiculous melee weapons

lysander - honestly hes actyually really strong and doesnt get enough credit, he can do a lot of damage often outliving al other terminators in play

bjorn the fell-handed - cause hes a dreadnaught and dreadnaughts live to punch things senseless

things that people often take but are actually awful:

belial - actually hes worse than most company masters and generic captains, which is sad when hes supposed to be the most skilled martial warrior in the entire dark angels chapter and its successors, begs to ask the question as to who exactly said so, and what the qualifications of such a title requires

Draigo takes the win in all the games I've played. With his 2+/3++, Titansword, and psychic powers he is a mean, mean motor scooter of Death.

I wonder how well Sigismund would do? He's a Marine after all.

He is a MEQ model with Ws7 W4 I5 A4, 2+/4++, EW, +1 I on the charge and a +2S AP2 weapon. In a challenge he rerolls to hit and to wound, his attacks cause ID and force rerolling successful invulns.

For me the toughest NAMED Space Marine dudes on the block are:

(In no particular order)

- Kaldor Draigo
- Lysander
- Marneus Calgar
- Dante
- Abbadon
- Logan Grimnar


Arjac Rockfist just left out on account of only having 2 wounds (he is still bloody good). I would have also added Kharn, but left him out on account of his not very good invun save and lack of eternal warrior. For a character to be in my list, they have also got to absorb the punishment too - Kharn can dish it, but he can't take it.

I also don't agree with adding the likes of Pedro Kantor or units that are good when in a group. They should be able to stand toe to toe on their own. I had Kantor sliced to pieces by Kharn in one round of combat once. Of course, a lot of characters with higher initiative, lots of wounds and strong invun saves can swat Kharn aside without too much hassle.

I agree. If push came to shove and I had to pick which one I thought was THE most powerful NAMED CHARACTER in HtH combat, then I would also go for Draigo. The man not only has super strong attacks at full initiative (combined with physic powers), but can be an absolute tank in terms of taking damage. He just has the edge over the others like Lysander and Calgar etc.

Leave it to a Swede to have better comprehension of English than a Brit.

Abbadon imho the thing is with the exception of BA because of the talon no other loyalist character gets any special rules vs him which one you add in both Votlw and black crusader + drachyeon and the talon and he can kill most loyalist named characters before they get a chance to strike.
Honourable mention goes to Kharn and A Khorne lord with the AoBF

I've found it amusing when people come with these kind of topics it always seems like half the posters respond incorrectly.
