Oh man, Dino-Riders, that takes me back. I had the T-Rex with harness and figures, kind of sad my parents sold them all. Peter Cullen voiced a few of the characters on the show too.

My childhood was basically defined by 3 things:
Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Lego
Each of which I have in spades. I didn't really get into Marvel comics or DC (other than Batman) until a fair bit later, a years or so before the first Iron Man film came out.

As a tiny squig, my main toys were hot wheels.
Once I got a bit older, it was all about the Lego!
I started initially with a mix of Space Explorers vs. Blacktron, Fire + Police Station and the old Fabuland stuff. But soon enough I found my way into the Castle line, with my first set being the Black Monarch's Castle.
From there I simply stayed mostly with just the various Castle themes, though I did get back into the Fire Station theme in the later 90's.
I also collected a whack load of the LotR action figures when the movies came out, including scooping up 4 Easterlings! (they were *really* rare in Canada) Though I never did manage to get my hands on the Twilight Bilbo, but I do have a number of the larger 'talking' figures such as Treebeard, Sauron & Golum.
Video games include;
- Legend of Zelda
original, Zelda 2, Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time + 3DS re-mix (my no.1!), A Lin kBetween Worlds. Currently playing Hyrule Warriors.
- Dragon Warrior/Quest
I, III, IV original NES versions. DWIII GBC re-mix. DQ IV, V, VI on the DS. Monsters Joker 2. Currently awaiting impatiently for the 3DS releases for VII + VIII!
- Breath of Fire 1 & 2
- Final Fantasy
original NES version. FF2 + 3 on the SNES. Dawn of Souls, 4 & 6 for GBA. Currently awaiting Final Fantasy Explorers for 3DS.
- Smash Brother Melee + Smash 4 for both Wii-U & 3DS. (I so hate amiibos... finding them is worse than waiting for GW to publish a decent Chaos codex!)
- Ogre Battle 64 (Best. Game. Ever!)
- Fantasy Life 3DS (too damn addictive!!)
I've also recently over the past few years come out of my Lego dark age and started collecting again...
First it was just the various Minifigures series, but it's now grown into a number of sets from Ninjago, Chima and of course, Star Wars! (duh!)
My largest collection is my Imperials, though sadly it still needs a truckload more Stormies.

All of the above as I am 33 years old.
Also, freaking Battlemasters! That and Heroquest were the sole reasons I got into wargaming. I dearly look forward to playing my original copy of Battlemasters with my son in about 5 years (he's just 1 now).
My god, is everyone posting on this thread so old?

As young one, with parents on a budget, my brothers and I were into the collectible tiny thing market. Transformers and Gi Joes were mainstream special occasion things.
Then there were
Micro Machines
Mega Force
Z-bots
Battle Beasts
Monsters in my pocket
and an unhealthy quantity of legos.
My sons love going over to grandma's house and seeing the old stockpile. Though they're very confused by the Beast Wars toys.

I find it wierd that modern toys are both much more awesome, and at the same time not as cool as, some of the toys of our youth. It's hard to find action figures that measure up to 3.5 inch G.I. Joes, or Micro Machines with all their awesome playsets.

I would mostly play with Lego and Playmobil, and I spent most of my time creating buildings.
I was also really interested in all sorts of board games, which brought me to HeroQuest, which in turn brought me to all things Games Workshop.
I wasn't really interested in, or allowed to have, 'violent' toys, so I didn't grow up with Ninja Turtles, Transformers or any kind of action figures.

I only brought it up as an explanation for why relatively young people grew up with old cartoons, and the paraphernalia.
I'm not 30 yet, I refuse to be considered old.

It's really fascinating dichotomy. Nostalgia flavors some mightily, mostly the ones without direct analogues today. The micro machines didn't have anything out there doing the same thing- until Star Wars brought them back to life. On the other hand, my old Transformers toys combiners do not even hold a candle to the current crop.
This
Would never be chosen over this
With a 5 and a 2 year old, you can see which toys are going to be the ones they post in whatever the 30 years from now equivalent of this thread is. Hot wheels will always be a thing. Beating daddy up with lightsabers and star wars helmets is going to stick. And the playskool action hero line is way better than the weebl wobbles we had to get by with- though they'll never know the weirdness of trying to figure out why the Blacktrons were so bad, or why the Space Police were fighting them. I will miss Lego's self created franchises. The stories you had to manufacture were awesome. And the nerf guns they have these days!

I had a lot of the same toys, but I also was super into trains - had a 6x4 train table in HO scale that was pretty baller.
Also a lot of 1/35 and 1/72 army guys that my brother and I would set up fictional matchups with. Call it an early precursor to wargaming where shouting replaced die rolling.

My parents treated me to the 18" deluxe Dragon Megatron from Beastwars after I scored 3pts in a semi-finals game at a hockey tourney down in London way back when! I still have him unopened in the original packaging, though I'm constantly tempted to break him out and start going from his dragon form vs. robot form.
He was a great consolation prize as we ended up only taking the silver in that tourney.
