I am going to show my friends tomorrow what X Wing is by playing the starter set with them, but at school our tables in our rooms are quite wide and not really long length ways. I also don't have a map mat for playing on. What table size should I be aiming for? Any help is very much appreciated!!

The play surface needs to be 3' x 3'.

Officially, yes, 3x3 for normal games, 6x3 for Epic.

But if you're just using the starter ships, you can get away with a bit smaller, but flying off the board is a significant thing, so get as close to 3x3 as you can, and make sure everyone knows exactly where the edge of the play area is somehow.

I'd say do 3' by as wide as you can and have the starting edges be the ones that are 3' apart.
