My Basilean 2k list is:

Spear Horde
Spear Horde
Paladin Foot Reg
Paladin Foot Reg

Paladin Cav Reg
Paladin Cav Reg

Standard Bearer
Standard Bearer - Horse - Hand Grenades

Phoenix
Phoenix

High Paladin on Dragon - Enscrolled Armour

2000 points.

It's not very killy but it certainly does well on all the Scenario Based Missions Any improvements or changes? I came first in a 2 day 6 game tournament with this list on the weekend but with many more tournaments to go I want to make sure my list works as well as it can possibly do.

Cheers

Looks decent to me, though I might replace the Phoenixes with something else, not sure what.

And, yes, good for missions with high mobility needs, not so great for a Kill! mission - but that is, I think, why there are missions.

No one army list excels at all missions.

In my group we are trying our hands at making some custom missions - so far the most entertaining has been Meeting Engagement! - where both armies are strung out along the road.

For added fun, we played it as the last scenario for our Beer Phase games last night - so not only were the armies strung out along the road, the generals were drunk....

The phoenix won every scenario based game along with the dragon. Plus they negate a large amount of shooting damage from the shooting horde based armies. If I had to remove them it would be for another Dragon. Only thing worse than 2 Dragons is a Dragon defense 6 with 12 heal dice behind it. Plus the phoenix clear a surprising amount of annoying chaff with their breath 10.

I have toyed with a Horde of Knights using Potion of Caterpillar for a potent charge. It won't help against obstacles but area terrain will no longer reduce my Knights attack ability.

Perhaps then I should simply accept that mission kill will be my "draw" mission while I aim high in the scenarios?

Yea after a few tournaments I think we might start changing up some of the scenarios a bit too. I have played around 50+ games now and it's pretty straight forward how we do our Scenarios now. It would have been cool if every book Mantic released contained new Scenarios or something.

I have to admit that I am overly fond of using Elohi, which would be the replacement for the Phoenixes, I think.

Two dragons would be... nasty.

Well Swastakowey... its probably good that you'll have six new scenarios to play in January. ;-)

Also, the list looks solid. There is definitely a bit of rock-scissors-paper in the meta right now, where shooter-hordes do magnificent amounts of work against foot-sloggers, and lists without flyers or much cavalry, whereas massed flyers (Elf Lord on Dragon, etc...) absolutely rock them, but prove vulnurable to those foot-sloggers if they have made sure to have a 2nd wave of offense.

Awesome, new book then?

I have yet to find this double line effective against my flyers. With forests and impassable terrain it's very easy for me to get my dragon where it needs to be.

I think the best counter to a dragon is to get your own dragon personally. Force the dragon to run away from you etc. If your opponent is competent no amount of double lines or positioning will let you get that flyer.

I would say that the best combo right now is Range + Line or flyer + Line.

Yep, new Campaign Book in January with 6 new scenarios which include kind of asymmetrical deployment and other unique ideas. Very cool.

As to Dragon counters... fair warning, a horde of Ogre Boomers are mobile and killy enough that I have countered many players trying to pull Flyer back-field shenanigans. ;-)

Sweet definitely adding to my next purchase.

The player who lost a dragon to a horde of boomers was not using his dragon very well I have to be honest. Especially with Defence 6, you could dedicate a bane chant to wound the dragon on 4s even then.

No Bane-Chant across the entire Ogre army. :-p

Thats even worse odds.. especially if the dragon has regen or heal backing it up...

Anyways I assume there are no changes you guys would do?
