Ok so I played 40k heavily during 5th and all of 6th edition and apart from a few things (taudar/cron airforce) was having great fun in the game. I mostly played at tournies as in NZ its the best way to get a weekends gaming in and have great fun doing them. I don't care to much about winning, but had lots of fun and did pretty well with my gk Modrak bomb list. I sold all my models and rules about 2 weeks before 7th dropped to take a break from the hobby and seems like a lot has changed since. Therefore I have lots of questions and would appreciate as many people replying so I can get a good idea for how the game is now.

1) What are the biggest differences between 6th&7th edition?

2) In 5th/6th I had a good understanding of every codex and the brb. Now it seems there are a tonne of rules scattered all over the place, codexs/supplements/brb/formations/digital. There is a lot more now that I would have to learn, is that a correct statement or is it not to bad to keep on top of all the rules/abilities of all armies?

3) Strength D, Gargantuan creatures, super heavies, unbound lists? Has 40k just become apocalypse now? Surely there are lots of house rules to keep things in hand?

4) loving the look of the admech/skitari/ imperial knights model. Are they 3 stand alone armies or can I play as a combination of those models?Although that means buying 2-3 codexs :(

5) When i played, tau/eldar/crons were the dominant lists. Is it still similar or are things more balanced now?

6)Could somebody kindly post a list of all the releases over the last year or so? Would be nice to know which armies ave been updated. Maybe start with 6th ed Tau and finish with 7th ed tau. Would be nice to know all the codex releases in between that time.

7) Finally how is the general scene, is 40k still in decline overall or still have a good player base, x-wing looks pretty cool as an alternative.

Anyway there's a start, I might have many more buts thats all I know for now. Look forward to seeing responses

1.)Maelstrom missions, unbound armies, lords of war as part of core force organization, formations everywhere, and the psychic phase.

2.) It's hard to learn from scratch but not terrible after that.

3.) Most tournaments have restrictions on LoW.

4.) They do look amazing and if you have all 3 codexs you can play all 3 in one force and I think there is a formation that uses units from all 3 codexs. The imperium is all battle brothers so you can in theory bring units from every imperial codex to a game.

5.) Necron are pretty high up there last I checked and I think skitarii are as well. Not 100% sure on the current rankings, Tau are likely to shift a little one way or the other with a new codex.

6.)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_(Warhammer_40,000)#7th_Edition

7.) It will depend on your area, lots of players in my area still.

1. Mission system, psychic phase, LoW as part of core rules

2. It is spread. What is worse some realy good rule sets are limited to short term deals, so you easily miss them or may not know about them until someone uses them against you.

3. there are rules to limit LoW, but of course the most common and strongest old apocalyps style units can go around it, by being part of a formation or not being a LoW.

4. It is more or less 3 books to play one army. Sometimes more as people tend to also run marine ally to get access to drop pods.

5. eldar/necron, tau droped out because of nerfs, eldar no longer being Battlebrothers with them and eldar/necron geting even better then the wave serpent spam you remember.

6. Can't help with that

7. A very local thing. I can imagine it growing in some places or having extra new players come over from WFB massacer.. Where I play the game groups seem stable, but there are few if any new players. On the other hand X-wing and other games are spreading like weeds.
