Hey mates. Recently got a bunch of models from the Betrayal at Calth Box set and after looking around, I decided on the Raven Guard as they are something new that I haven't tried yet. As it stands, I originally planned to do a Drop Pod Army List (currently have 7x Drop Pods), and while I know the Raven Guard aren't exactly a Drop Pod army, I still like the idea of running a Special Forces themed Space Marine Chapter. With that being said:

* With the release of the new Raven Guard vs Tau campaign, are there any formations that stand out to you to be very effective?

* Can a Drop Pod list be effective with Raven Guard Chapter Tactics?

* Any units you would recommend I should field with the Raven Guard? As it stands I currently have enough models to run: 7x 10-man Tactical Squads, 1x Squad of 10x Terminators w/a SM Captain, and the 7x Drop Pods, 2x built to hold Dreadnoughts. I am Not sure fluff wise if they have any Terminators or Dreadnoughts, however from what I have seen they do like to utilize a lot of Assault Marines, Vanguard Vets, and Scouts. Would appreciate any example Raven Guard lists you veterans can share with me.

* Character-Wise, while Shrike looks like a decent Character, how does he play on the table top? Also, is the Forge World Shadow Captain worth getting? Besides that what other characters are effective in a Raven Guard list, such as librarians, Chaplin's, etc.

If you haven't noticed, I am completely new when it comes to the Raven Guard. I am willing to listen to all advice from those who have played them for many years, as well as those who have played against them, know their background, rules, or anything else that can help. Really appreciate it mates.

NOTE: I do plan to double dip with this army so I can play both 40k and 30k Raven Guard, as well as use other Space Marine Chapters Rules and Tactics to mix things up when I play 40k.

I've been running Ravens since I started playing 40k. I almost always run fluffy builds and have had tons of fun with em. I never run termies and have rarely run dreads. My normal base is 3 five man scout groups with 2 being sniper/cloaked scouts and the 3rd being bolters in a speeder. I also usually add in 30 assault marines with 6 flamers, power fist and 3 melta bombs. My hq's are usually a pair of jump pack chaplains. I've run Korvadae a couple of times and had some serious fun. That gave me 7 objective secured troops including the speeder. I've added in melta sterns in pods to help get rid of armor turn 1. It's a good alpha strike list that puts the opponent on their heels. I also add in plasma bikes, melta attack bikes, and/or tempest speeders (for skyfire) to round out the army. Fast and fun chapter to play!

Just paint their hands silver and play iron hands.

That way the terminators and dreads will be good and fluff appropriate.

If forgeworld is an option (which it seems) just play 30k Raven Guard straight up, most people I came across when my flgs had GW stuff, were pretty cool with playing against mine.

Brb learning to play.
