Subject: How to Use a Flying Daemon Prince?
|
 |
Thane of Dol Guldur
|
I'm playing a 30k Word Bearers army, and have a Daemon Prince model and an AoS Korgarath model that might be cool as a Khornate Prince, but doesn;t have wings.
I play Tyranids so I'm familiar with FMCs, but all of mine have alot of shootiness to them. If I'm playing with Chaos Daemon Codex, I don't see anything in there to give a Daemon Prince any shots outside of Psychic Powers. The nerf to charging when switching from swooping to gliding means they're sacrificing a round of charging by ever swooping. So how important is Daemonic Flight. Are Daemon Princes viable without it? If you do take it, is the idea to swoop around casting Psychic mojo, or gliding and crashing into enemy units?
Never really used these guys much before, and when I did it was a Flying Nurgle Prince with that Torrent artifact from the CSM codex. Any tips on how to equip them and use them would be appreciated.

Generally, two good ways to build your DP, one is classic Daemon of Nurgle, Black Mace, Power armor and Wings. Just keep gliding mode, and almost ensure you a turn two assault, 2+ to wound AP2. Always jink to get 2+ cover save. If you predict you may face low AP ignore cover weaponary, eg. Tau or Tiggy buffed Grav Centurion, then build it as Daemon of Tzeentch, spell familiar, wings, Lvl 3 psyker. Flying high and cast psychic power everywhere, after the mandatory Tzeentch, roll everything on Telepathy table, psychic sherik is the best witchfire power.

I may go the Tzeentch route if that's a decent build as I have the standard Daemon Prince model, and I'm not much into modeling and painting the rot, pustules, and such. Also playing 30k rules, DPs get Mastery Levels cheaper than Marines can. Thanks for the advice!

Automated Rubric Marine of Tzeentch
|
My friend routinely destroys me with his 1k Nurgle flying circus. Flying daemon princes that cast mad spells are just brutal. Avoid the torrent artifact if you're using CSM because if you junk you can't fire it. Just fly from ruins to ruins to make use of the cover save and shrouded (and still be able to cast blast psychic powers). Nurgle ones have lots of good spells and if you throw in Belakor as we), the invisibility and psychic shriek are very scary.
Once I learn how to play my army against a skilled opponent I may fare better but until then I'll continue to get face rolled, haha.

there's a finesse to using princes, you've gotta know when to stay on the ground and when to fly. i don't use the marine version often, but i've liked the tzeentch one with the burning brand and spell familiar. use him to summon and keep him flying.
for tzeentch from c:daemons, they can work well as mini LoC's, essentially, except they get telepathy/biomancy instead of divination. 2x greater, 1x lesser(staff). they are less reliable to get shrouding/invis, so i run them in pairs. it's a fun combo.

I also have a Lord of Change model. So looking at the codex and based on the models I have I think I have to do a Tzeentch DP to get them both in a list. So my allied detachment would be:
HQ
Lord of Change
Troop
Big pile of Horrors
HS
Daemon Prince of Tzeencht

basically, yes. the 2x greeter gifts are good for getting them some extra protection, and the lesser reward is always swapped to the staff for +2S, concussive, and that explosion effect.
horrors are often done in groups of 11, 13, or 17. depends on how many warp charges you want and how many extra wounds you want to give them.
may as well always roll them on malefic daemonology

Hi guys,
I have a necron army, and was hoping to dip my toes into the whole "psychic phase" mumbo jumbo. I was thinking of using a flying Daemon Prince, as the model looks cool and the images it creates in ones mind are awesome.
I was wondering if it is viable to kit one out as a psycher, and if making it flying is worth it?
Basically how do I build one of these, as there are so many options in the CSM book by the looks of it. I will probably just be taking two standard cultist units for tax.
I am hoping to start a CSM army, as they look so bada$$ compared to normal "nice guys"
Thanks in advance
