Hi people ! I just wanted to know if anybody tried the BT of Insensate Rage on the table and what was your impression of him. I know many people don't want to field him because he strikes at initiative 1 and thus could (in theory) be killed by swarm/ hordes units or even terminators with power fists, but is this true in your experience ?

Thanks for your input.

I almost always run him in my Khorne Daemonkin army. He is BEASTLY! I've had him kill four vehicles in one game (that was after killing The Emperor's Champion), and in another game he and another D-thirster killed each other (both rolled a 6 on the D table, double First Blood!). If you play Khorne Daemonkin, don't leave home without one.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Well thank you for your input ! How is it that striking at initiative 1 doesn't disminishes its capabilities ?

You try to avoid things that can kill him before striking. And he's still a multi-wound t6 3+ 5++ model with ws10.

Just pick your targets carefully. A Bloodthirster is pretty hardy unless it is up against other D-weapons (like Wraithknights and Imperial Knights) or massed Power Fists (termies). They are great for smashing vehicles to tiny bits, but you have to avoid characters with Instant Death (I've lost mine to axes of Khorne before, it sucks) or D-weapons. Knights are actually not as big of a problem as long as you are okay with trading your 'thirster for your opponent's Knight (a good trade, really).

Exactly. It's a gamble to send one in against a knight, because it may get smashed down before it strikes...but that's not actually that likely.

A knight that gets charged has 3 attacks - thanks to the Bloodthirster's WS10, it should only land 1 hit. Which is only a deathblow 1/6th of the time. Meaning you've got about an 80% chance of getting to attack and if the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage gets to swing, that knight is gonna explode. It may take the Greater Daemon with it, but the Greater Daemon is (a) worth significantly less points and (b) hands out Blood Tithe points when it dies or kills.

As noted, avoid force weapon wielders like the plague. A 65 odd point librarian has enough of a chance to kill you that you should be extremely nervous around one.

Also, lacking any shooting attack, jink as a response to any shooting attack. It costs you nothing and gives you a 4+ cover save!

Well, you can always run Belakor along your D-thirster, flying the DP high while the GD glide on the ground, just make sure you throw enough dice to cast invisibility on the D-thirster, so he has very high chance to survive to I1 even you face WKs and IKs, then it is just blood for the blood god.
