Okay, so I lied This guy uses a bunch of non-Calth bits to get him to look more Blood-Angely, but I DID paint him at the same time that I'm working on like, 20 Calth tacticals... so that sorta counts... right? Pure Calth tacticals are coming, I promise!
I would have used the Calth upper torso, but the tab at the bottom of the armor interferes with the pose that I wanted, when coupled with the BA Mk4 legs out of the BA Tac box. I settled for a chest, I think, from the old command squad box. The Calth Mk4 helmets look MUCH better than the BA Mk4 helmets, IMO -- both the forge world ones and the ones from the BA tac box.
Incidentally, the arms from Calth are the BEST ARMS EVER. The little wrist guard that covers the right arm lets you totally fudge it in terms of positioning. With the tacs that I'm building, I can put the left and right arm in place, with no weapon (so as to easily paint the torso and back of the gun), and just drop it in afterwards.
As always, thank you for viewing and your criticism and comments are highly appreciated!

Gorgeous!!
What color do you use to highlight with, and how in the heck do you get such crisp highlights?? I want my BA to look like yours but cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to edge highlight cleanly like that. It's maddeningly frustrating.
I've said it before, but I hope that one day ,y Blood angels look as good as yours do there Talys. Truly inspiring work sir, particularly for me.
Can't wait to see more of your stuff soon. Take it easy for now.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed. |

Hey Red Thirst Thank you!! The basic red recipe I use for my BA is mephiston red, shaded with agrax earthshade, and highlighted with fire dragon bright. Some of the tips/corners are highlighted with Ungor Flesh to give it a little more punch. If it's a character model, or on areas where I want to really show more detail, like the head, I'll highlight it (a little fatter) with Evil Sunz Scarlet first. I use a Winsor & Newton S7 size 0 and size 00 to highlight. I find that the trick to crisp highlights is a clean brush, especially with a color like orange, which turns chalky really quickly and is hard to rinse off. For instance, you'll probably notice that if you use a brand new paintbrush, the highlights are easier to do than an older one. To deal with this, I have a tiny little jar (small Tamiya mixing jar) of the W&N brush cleaner, and in the course of highlighting a squad of models like this one, I may clean my brush in the brush cleaner 100+ times -- essentially any time there's *any* visible paint after rinsing with water. With the W&N cleaner, it only a couple of seconds (and then rinse in water), so it's no big deal. The other thing I do to keep it quick is that when I do highlights, since I know brushes will gunk up, I have, like, 4 highlight brushes. I just set them aside, and when I get to the last one, I clean them all (with brush cleaner) at the same time.

Very nice. If I end up getting the BaC boxed set, I may end up doing BA as well.

Nice job Talys. I'm planning on using the same mk4 legs from the BA tac squad to mix up my BaC squad. Look forward to seeing your other models.

Talys, been lurking in your threads for awhile. All your paint jobs are just stunning. Great stuff. DUDE - huge thanks on the brush recommendation. I'm using OLD GW brushes I got ages ago and have trouble keeping my highlights consistent, and haven't known which brushes to get. The brushes you suggested don't break the bank and look solid, so THANKS BOSS! After Christmas I'll be starting up my Raven Guard HH force from my BaC box, so I'll make sure to put up some progress. Thanks man!

Great looking model. To do my highlights I just dry brush the heck out of them. I don't know if I have the steady hand to layer them the way you do. Though I'm doing some Ravenwing right now and some of the metals I cant cheat my way through lol.

Glad I was of help with the brushes, Castellan Alaric
Tagony, drybrush looks great for highlights on many models -- there's nothing wrong with that at all!
