Did a massive trade and I now have a good size Eldar force. Some had really bad paint, they are sitting in super clean. Some are bare. Looking for cool paint scheme ideas. One question.... Are the schemes put forward in the 'dex from various Craftworlds all there really is?

Second question, are units like Dire Avengers ALWAYS blue? Or if they are from Biel Tan, would they be green? Or is it up to me?

Ultimately I like to be creative and original, but I like it to line up with fluff...

It's really up to you. The craft worlds in the codex are there to find inspiration. As far as the aspect warriors go, the codex shows their common uniforms. If you want to make a Biel Tan army and want everyone in green, go for it. If you want them all red, go for it. If you go for the generic colors, it may improve resale because they may not need to be stripped by the new owner.

As I understand it, the Aspect Warriors are set color schemes, for the most part, regardless of Craftworld they hail from. Whether you go with the "each suit is passed down from Aspect Warrior to Aspect Warrior, as they follow that avenue of the Path of the Warrior, before they go off, do a different Path, and leave that armor with the Aspect Shrine, for the next inductee to use" (only Autarchs take pieces of armor/their weapons with them), or just say "organizations favor unique uniforms, and each Aspect Shrine has one, regardless of which town they hail from", they seem to be rather set in stone. If you want, of course, they could certainly pull a Deathwatch, and have for the most part identical suits, but have some detail accents that share which Craftworld they hail from, perhaps a yellow and blue emblem with the symbol of Iyanden on it, or the same in black and ivory, with the Ulthwe logo, for the six Aspect Warriors that Craftworld possesses, sort of like every Deathwatch Kill-Marine wears black armor, with a silver arm, but has a shoulder plate/pauldron with their Chapter's colors/iconography, to appease the power armor's machine spirit. Otherwise, the standard paint scheme means that they'll blend in great with whatever Eldar you run, whereas Catachan, or Vostroyan Guard can look sort of out of place, if most of what you have is Cadians, but you couldn't get those prepainted, on Ebay.

As for the Craftworlds, themselves, yeah their colors are mostly set, too. However, like the aforementioned Space Marines, there are hundreds, possibly a thousand Craftworlds, of various sizes, renown, and locale, more than the handful we usually get in their book, and while each in the codex is partially themed, even though the codex doesn't always support that, anymore, mechanically, many of the others might be more general than "Craftworld of Aspect Warriors", Craftworld of Seers", Craftworld of Bikers", and/or Craftworld of the Walking Dead", so you might easily throw together any paint scheme you like. One Imperial Armor edition gave us Mymaera Craftworld, where the Shadow Spectre Aspect Shrine still stood, while FFG RPGs gave us Craftworld Kaelor, of the Koronus Expanse, renowned for its Warp Spiders, I think its Fire Dragons, and space combat skill (but before the CrimsonHunters were released), and Miandrothe, of the Askellion Sector. Like new chapters, you can certainly make up whatever, and not even be constrained by what Chapter your newbies hail from; Eldar don't work that way. If you wanted to paint your Eldar pink and green (Craftwold Cybamen?), black and purple, or whatever, it'll work just fine. Even Skittles theme, like the Eldar of the 70's used to be ("know the rainbow, be crushed by the rainbow!")

If you have the new eldar codex craftworlds, you will see variations on a theme for each aspect. Much like the successor chapters for space marines. So there is wiggle room there. I think the aspects have a strong identity with colours they are known to wear. Also, I can guarantee (almost ) that during their conception/creation, every colour option was tried and they went with what they agreed looked the best. That being said. They are your models. Do what you like. Have fun regardless!

Decided on IYBRAESIL

What's left of Cadia

Iybraesil is a pretty good craftworld choice. I love their color scheme, and running lots of banshees is fun

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

The 'dex covers the largest craftworlds, like the SM 'dex covers the most important chapters. Therefore any colour is good.
As said by others, DAs are generally blue but there's nothing stopping you changing this. For all your aspects you could use the IYBRAESIL blue for details or highlights or a lighter or darker hue of it for the main armour colour to tie the force together.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
