Hello,
I haven't actually played yet, and I haven't been able to afford the rule book yet, so I don't know if it has a guide for this, but I need help understanding the stat tables. I know what each thing is, but how do they work? Like, how do you look at the stats and determine what you need to roll in order to hit and wound? In addition, if anyone knows, how does the particle whip for the Monolith work? It's an S8 AP4 Large Blast, Ordinance 1, so how do you roll for wounds? I know you roll dice equal to the number of pieces that fall under the template, but what do you need to roll to wound?

Get the rulebook.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

It can vary a great deal. BS is a flat lookup table (eg BS 3 = 4+ to hit), WS is a comparative table (your WS 3 vs their WS 3 = 4+ to hit). Your S vs their T is a comparative table. But then T can be it's own test (roll equal or under to). I can be a dice off (each roll 1D6 and add repective I scores) or it can be it's own test as per T. A is usually just the number of dice rolled when using WS. Ld is tested on 2d6, add the numbers and try to roll equal or less than your Ld score. I'm probably forgetting one, but thats my gist of it all.

edit2: large blast means the use of a large plastic (round) template to determine who gets hit. But yeah, the rulebook sort of helps. Until you run into something poorly worded and need an faq which will never come. But it goes through the basics and tends to give examples.

Thanks Torga. I've been trying to practice by making my army fight itself, like half vs half for practice reading the stats and stuff, so this should help me do this more accurately xDD I dont have the dice for blast spreads yet, so im rolling d6s and if I roll 1-3 I miss, and 4-6 I hit xDD I know thats not how it would really work, but its the best I can do xD

Yeah, you're not playing the game unless you get the rulebook. May as well stand them up against each other making pew pew noises. You can actually get worse by pretending you're doing the right thing, so I'd focus on the physical part of the hobby, building and painting, until you can actually read the rules. If you get something so blatantly wrong in your head, you might have a hard time unlearning it. 40k is a fairly complicated game, so it's easier to go in fresh, learn it right so you can limit your mistakes as you go on.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's what floats your boat

However, it should be pointed out that the forum isn't a replacement for having the rulebook. Ultimately, you're going to need it (or at least access to one) to play the game, as there are simply too many rules to convey through forum posts.
