Hi there Dakka,

EDIT - Removed second list for budget reasons Looking for advice on improving/using this list instead.

LIST ONE - "STORM SCIONS"

Command Squad - 125pts
4x Hotshot Volley Gun

Transport - Taurox Prime - 125pts
Missile Launcher
Augur array
TL Autocannons

5 Scions - 100pts
2x Plasma

5 Scions - 100pts
2x Plasma

5 Scions - 90pts
2x Melta

5 Scions - 90pts
2x Melta

Valkyrie - 135pts
Lascannon

As it stands, this list hits 1,015 points - the only real upgrade I can see myself removing would be an Augur array? Or perhaps to change one of the Taurox weapons - what do you guys think?

With this list I'd be relying on striking fast and hard - deepstriking my meltas/plasmas in the face of anything scary and hoping to reduce them to gooey puddles before they know what hit them. My command squads can dish out orders and plenty of AP3 shots whilst the Valkyrie zips around blasting stuff and providing some anti-air. Just as a note, I appreciate that this list will suffer terribly if I roll badly for reserves/scatter, but I kinda like that element of it :* It'll lead to some amazing "just in time" moments and many (more) frustrating delays I'm sure.

I will most likely come up against an 1000pts list from the Betrayal at Calth box set for my first few games, so hopefully this'll beat that at least. Let me know what you think!

Thanks.

The big advantage of the latter - find 25 points to slot in a Commissar and you've got a Ground Assault Formation.

That formation's command benefit is quite nice (twin-link all the squad's guns on the turn you disembark from your taurox) - whether it's better or worse than Objective Secured is something only experience will tell you.

If you try it, I'd dump the vox-casters; if you're getting twin-linked on all your squads, the importance of Voice of Command drops anyway. I'd be tempted to switch the command squad back to your preferred 4 volley gun unit and just dig into cover and Preferred Enemy volley fire away.

In terms of the two armies.... I'd prefer the latter anyway; I know it's only "1,000" points but starting with only two rhino-analogues on the board leaves you a bit vulnerable for my taste.

The deep striking scions should put out a lot of hurt - especially against marine infantry-heavy armies - but you are vulnerable to bad reserve rolls.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I noticed that - I love the look of Ground Assault formation. I'm entirely new to the game, so I wouldn't be able to tell yet, but I guess I'll find out!

Good call on the Vox's, I'll bear that in mind if/when I gun for that formation.

So is the deep-strike list still viable? It's the cheaper list monetarily, so I feel like it might be a starting point from which I can move on to something more like the second.

I'm not sure how you'd find the points to do it, but it looks to me like you only have one squad capable of dealing with TEQ (things with 2+ armor saves). If that squad gets picked off, doesn't come in from reserves in time, etc. you could get steamrolled by a squad of terminators or equivalent. You could consider changing the flamer squad to plasma, since two command squads of HSVG (16 s4 ap3 shots per round each) will carve a decent chunk out of infantry blobs anyway.

An entire society spanning thousands of light years worships a dead guy in a golden throne by killing alien races with genetically mutated supersoldiers dressed in bright blue and gold armor.

And they call religions today stupid.

Thanks for the feedback! I've switched to plasmas, leaving me with two squads each of plasma/melta - that should do the trick! I've removed the second list, unfortunately, I think the ground assault formation will come later. I love it, but I'd rather pick up a Storm Scions box in one go and work with that before I buy any more (I already have an extra command squad).
