Has anybody seen the new town gate model by Tabletop World??!

http://www.tabletop-world.com/townGate.php

Absolutely love this piece and wonder what it will be like with a good set of walls!

Yeah, it looks amazing.

I'm a bit worried about scale though, I'm very happy with all of the TW buildings that I own, except for the Coaching Inn which seems to be nearer to 25mm scale than 28mm/30mm.

I'd love to see some pics of it next to some 30mm figures to put my mind at ease before a purchase.

Cianty from TBMF has you covered for pics and a thorough descriptive review(edit: clarified - of similar models not the gate itself), and I emailed them & got a few measurements on the Mansion as well. The TL;DR is that they seem to have bumped the scale back up a touch since the new Coaching Inn model - the new Townhouses and the Mansion all measure approx 46mm from the ground to the top of the wooden beam marking the top of the ground floor, and the main doors measure approx 34mm. They actually seem fairly well-scaled for 28mm heroic/30mm models relative to actual HRE-era buildings.

That does mean they can look a touch "off" next to models on bases since they're not oversized, but that's easily solved by "basing" the buildings as well; I've put my Mansion on a 3mm-thick plasticard sheet trimmed to project a few mm out from the building's footprint and then bevelled & sand-coated to look like dirt that's built up against the walls.

Judging by the windows & doors relative to the Pro Gloria models I'd say this new model is on that same newer scale. Now all I have to do is figure out how many family members I have to sell to the local Bratva people-smuggling ring to afford a couple of them

Yeah I had not put too much thought into the scale of them until now so I am glad to get this feedback. Would be interested to see how they look compared to some Warhammer models; would you have any photos of your buildings? Would love to see them

That's a really interesting read, thanks for linking it It seems they hold up well and would make good pieces for skirmish games too. From what I gather their earlier stuff is a bit bigger which is a shame but the designs they have for their buildings still make me want to buy a whole load of them!

That's a nice idea about basing them first to match model height with doors etc. I would say basing would be essential for the bridge piece anyway as it would be nice to design a river to go under it.

Yeah the price is a real stumbling block alright. Just put a few things in the basket now and it seems you nearly pay as much on tax and delivery as the product itself; do they charge vat on the items with the postage price included?!

Thanks a lot Yodhrin, that link is extremely helpful; just what I was looking for!

I think that I will follow your lead with adding plasticard to the base of the coaching inn too, a few extra millimeters in height should improve the scale issue.

Now I have to just find the money, TW have their Christmas deal on again which means that the more you spend, the more valuable the extra model is that they throw in.

I don't know about that, but yeah, the extra VAT is a killer.

Zealotminiatures.com carry some of the TW stock and they are based in the UK, so it works out cheaper to buy from them. Unfortunately a lot of the items are out of stock at the moment.

That Townhouse model is a great incentive to reach. At least it lasts until 31st December which gives me time to come up with something from somewhere!!

Don't expect that to change soon chief; Zealot are still casting & shipping their dungeon terrain KS, and I doubt TTW will be focusing on restocking third party retailers during their Christmas offer period. Regarding the scale, as far as I can tell they've had essentially three "phases" - the original products, which they had to retire because the designs were shredding moulds too quickly for them to be profitable, the start of their newer range(IIRC the Cottage, Townhouse #1, the Coaching Inn, and maybe the Blacksmith & Merchant House), and then their present scale which to their credit is a reaction to customer criticism of the Coaching Inn, which seems to be fairly close to their original scale.

To be fair to them Donomar; you are supposed to pay VAT on shipping charges as well, it's just that's usually hidden because most places use VAT-inclusive prices for everything, whereas with TTW we are seeing the sausage being made, as it were

Their prices are hefty, but I've been saving since last year when I bought myself the Mansion for my Christmas present, it was so fantastic to see in-person, so I'll be splurging this year and grabbing the Town Gate and the Stone Bridge(which gets me a free Townhouse #3, a great deal I constantly insist to myself ).

Oh feth.

I spent a ridiculous amount on TW models before Christmas, now I'm gonna have to pick up those walls at some point.

I should probably wait until the corner sections are released...
