GW still offers a significant number of minis in metal. My question is: do they still manufacture these minis or are they all simply old backstock that will eventually go OOP?

I have also heard various second-hand accounts that GW actually sold off their spin-casting equipment. Can anyone confirm this?

I can tell you I have seen previously out of stock models come back into stock, but that may simply be GW's various warehouses around the world juggling stock if they see the 'notify me when it is back in stock' button being used in their area.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

As I understand it, the bulk of metal stock is kept at the warehouse in England. When a country's webstore shows "Temporarily Out of Stock," stock is transferred to the region where it's needed. However, a label of "Sold Out - No Longer Available" would mean the warehouse in England has no stock, and it's OOP.

I was told that there was no production using metal at lenton anymore and that all metal minatures would eventually go out of stock and would no longer be available.

Thats from a chap that works in there and it was around this time last year that I asked.

Not sure if anything has changed in this last year, stuff has steadily been going from the website so i suspect the situation is still the same.

That's what I've heard, as well. The metal molds are wrapped up on pallets and tucked away.

On a whim, I decided to call UK GW customer service to ask if they still made metal minis. I called FW first, thinking that their CS might be more familiar with manufacturing (smaller shop). He seemed to indicate that there was still small scale manufacturing of metal character models produced on-demand as needed. The CS rep at GW proper seemed to be more of an order-taker type and not someone familiar with the overall business. I was again told they still make metal models, but the reply was halting and a lot less believable as someone speaking from knowledge on the topic.

FWIW.
