Im contemplating buying the codex/s and just want to know if there is a chance of a new codex coming out in 2016/17?

No-one really knows. GW may decide they like the direction they went with the Tau codex (there was a 7th version, or you could use the 6th version with the addition of the Kayuon book), or they could go back and completely re-do the codex.

Either way, they'd have to get through updating other 6th ed codexes that need Decurion-style super-formations (Orks, Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Blood Angels, Dark Eldar) and I don't think they'll get through all those in less than a year, but where GK falls in that schedule is anyone's guess.

{Edit} Fluffed up my reading comprehension there! I thought the OP was about GK! Begging everyone's pardon.

Supposedly there's a new SW codex in February. I'd check the News and Rumours section to keep up to date.

Well, maybe there will be a new codex soon.
But what would you expect.
I play long enough to see that new codices bring new disappointments. Don't bother.

Logically we should see Guard, Nids, Chaos (Marine and Daemon) getting updated before anything from 7th edition. Logic unfortunately is not in GW's playbook so they could release a new edition for Necrons in a month for all we know. The Space Wolves Rumors might actually be a Campaign set of some kind adding a few formations or detachments but not a whole Codex change.

IIRC, Sad Panda who's as reliable as they come these days, hinted at an actual codex release for Wolves. Apparently it's also likely to be a multiple week release, so new models are probably coming as well, because... "Reasons".

GW at this point isn't going to touch Chaos with a million foot pole.
Chaos Marines have been left to rot for so long now, that I'd put more money in GW just outright squatting them entirely, rather than risk any investment in re-doing them.

People said the same thing about Dark eldar for how long and then bang in 5th they got an entire new range of models. GW isn't going to squat the main bad guys in the setting but if they are going to redo the whole line that's going to take time to get all the models right.

I don't think Sad Panda ever implied we would see a *codex*. He said we would see more Space Wolves. That could mean anything. It will almost certainly be a general release of the Krom Dragongaze model. It could be a campaign box. No one really knows.

Both Sad Panda & Atia have said there's no codex or meaningful model release coming next year for Chaos, and my gut instinct is saying that 2017 isn't looking good either.

My bet is we might get a single kit in 2016 + another kit in 2017, then (hopefully) a new Daemon codex sometime in 2018. The Marines though? At this point, I have no faith in gw to do right by us long suffering Chaos players...
It's only been almost an entire decade now since we've had an actual codex, and we're the only army who haven't seen a single new special/heavy or close combat weapon in 18+ years.

The only things we keep getting is a giant Imperial boot placed firmly up our poop chutes, and the most useless rules gw can possibly think of.
If we get 8th ed in 2017, that'll now be TWO! entire editions that we've been skipped over.

@experiment 626: I think you need to talk about something else for a while. Your chaos marines rage is so strong. You kinda need some topic to talk about that doesn't make you so mad or frustrated. Seriously all that rage couldn't be good for you even if khorne is chaos and this news would just make him all the angrier which should in a way be good for you.

Nah, this is just how we Chaos players "forge the narrative" with our army.

Yep. Here's what I got for space wolf rumors from a reliable GW inside source (I use the same one as BOLS)

Great wolf company:

Command: 1 wolf lord

Core: 1 wolf guard
2 Grey Wolves (renamed GH)
2 Blood Wolves (new BC, same kit with 15$ price hike)
1 Thunderwolf cavalry
1 unit of fenrisian wolves

Benefit: may purchase "of the wolf" upgrades for 10 points for any model. "Of the wolf" increases all stats by 1, and may be purchased as many times as desired for each model. The space wolf player upon moving or performing any action with a model with one or more of these upgrades must say aloud his full title.

Auxiliary:

Storm of Wolves
3 storm wolves.
3 units of fenrisian wolves

Units of fenrisian wolves from this formation have no upper unit limit. Storm wolves from this formation have unlimited transport capacity but must only carry fenrisian wolves

MURDERFANGCLAW

12 MURDERFANG

MURDERFANG IS NOT A UNIQUE CHARACTER IN THIS FORMATION. WHEN FIELDING MURDERFANGCLAW THE SPACE WOLF PLAYER IS NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK BELOW MAXIMUM VOLUME

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

As usual, we'll be seeing every new codex followed up with a freakishly huge model GW demands we buy.

A New Model Approaches!

Cerberus, Guardian of the Underworld
- Gargantuan Monstrous Creature with Three Heads

= Annihilating Charge - Cerberus Hammer of Wraths as a Destroyer weapon
= Super Rage - Gains 3 attacks on the charge
= Perfect Counterattack - Gains 3 attacks when charged
= Gatekeeper of Hell - Once per game, Cerberus can open the gates of the underworld and deny death its due. All infantry, beasts, and cavalry that die this turn return to play immediately but are removed as casualties at the end of the turn.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

His name is Morkai thank you. Which I'm sure is 100% original. The wolf guarding the underworld bears no resemblance to the 3 headed dog guarding the underworld. At all.
