Its old news that Daybreak games now owns SOE games like Planetside but according to the forums(https://forums.daybreakgames.com/ps2/index.php?threads/sony-online-entertainment-becomes-daybreak-game-company.213868/page-24) , Daybreak games is a subsidiary of Renova Group/Columbus Nova( you can check here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daybreak_Game_Company)

Apparently, Columbus Nova has done some shady stuff in the past, http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/u-s-court-charges-renova-group-billionaire-duo-for-armed-takeover-in-russia/502610.html

I'm surprised there was no gamergate esque scandal involving this

From what I understand, most - if not all - of the big companies in Russia have, shall we say, "people of notoriety" in leadership positions. That's not to say that organized crime is running the whole thing. But there's a lot of corruption.

Now having said that, Daybreak is probably more or less insulated from that. Renova Group owns a number of companies. Linking Daybreak to the Renova leadership is probably kind of like linking Blizzard to the Call of Duty series.

Renova is a conglomerate. You'd be hard pressed to find any conglomerate that doesn't have shady business dealings, or shady people in positions of authority. It doesn't help that the very structure of conglomerates facilitates shady business, as improprieties can simply be juggled back and forth easily between different sections to obscure investigations and there's very little law at present to regulate what conglomerates can and can't do with regards to that. These companies are so big it's practically assured (it's basically a mega corporation). But it doesn't necessarily follow that shady business in the right hand translates to shady business in the left. These companies are of a size where the right and left hands rarely know or care what the other is doing.
