Do you have an airbrush?
If so a metalic with a clear red of some kind applied thinly over the top.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

The easiest way to get this look is as mentioned, after priming the model, drybrush it or airbrush (contrary to popular belief, an airbrush is absolutely not necessary for this effect, or many others) it with a gunmetal, steel or silver (depending on how bright you want the metal to be) and then apply a couple of heavy washes or glazes over the top in the desired colour.

Wouldn't mixing in some Vallejo metallic medium with your paint work as well guys?

Yep, that would do it as well.

I wonder what ratio. I'm doing one of the paint techniques from the citadel chart (not trying to hijack the thread,) but since it has three layers, should it be mixed into each layer or just the last one?

I didn't realize there were iridescent paint mediums out there.I think I will try the Vallejo brand and see what happens.
And yes I do have an airbrush, and I think I will try both methods to see which I like better.
Thanks!

There's a post here that is pertinent to the OP's question.
