curious if anyone has ever played or seen a list like this played

the main idea is basic cheap armor spam

the way I see it:
pros:
1. very limited wasted fire... squadrons are small and typically all armed the same, so unlike vets and infantry where you're really only firing to hit with the 2 meltaguns, the other 50+ pts of lasgun fire and models are wasted
2. practical invulnerability to all small arms fire - all the typical guns in the universe are S4 or less, making them practically useless against your army as long as you are keeping good placement and not flashing your rear to everyone
3. large amounts of heavy weapons fire compared to similar point value lists
cons:
1. semi-weak to close combat (but what AM army isnt?)
2. I can see it struggling against other high S blast army's (like another guard artillery player) because a single large blast can easily pop many sentinels
3. price to aquire models

extreme rough draft of list:

Combined Arms Detachment:

company command squad - flamers and a vox w/ master of fleet
-chimera
platoon command - plasma's a medic and a vox to move forward with vets for orders
-chimera
infantry squads x2 combined- flamers and a single vox
conscripts to surround artillery
vets - plasmas and a vox
-chimera
vets - plasmas
-chimera
armored sentinels x3 w/ lascannons
vendetta
wyvern x2
ratlings x7 -help pick out lascannon or other HW infantry threats

emporers wrath artillery detachment:
company command
-chimera
basilisk x2
hydra x1
manticore x1
enginseer + 2 Heavy bolters servs

emporers talon sentinel detachment - outflanking to pop rear armors
armored sentinel x3 autocannons
armored sentinel x3 autocannons
armored sentinel x3 autocannons

i dont know exact point values and am at work right now, but from memory this should put me in the 1850 range and that's a lot of armor to deal with for any army, and unlike typical tank spam lascannons are at best popping 1 sent a turn, there's 12 sents on the table and other armor

If you're looking to play mechanized humans, look at the Tempestus "Ground Assault" formation with four Taurox. Moving 12" and then shooting twin-linked autocannons and a S7 blast for 80 points is the train to value town.

Also don't miss Forgeworld stuff like the cheap stationary Basilisk cannons (you can proxy things like World War 2 flak gun models.)

Also be aware that at this point in the release cycle, you're necessarily betting which units and formations will be good in the new codex in 2016.

IA13 or IA5 second edition are great for Mechanized Humans. Although it's the Chaos faction, you don't have to take anything chaotic to make a decent list if, you want it to represent a guard regiment or PDF.

Quick suggestion on the Earthshaker artillery piece replacement: I've just picked up three 15cm s.FH 18 Field Howitzers (#02304) from Trumpeter, they're a great replacement: They come at about 30 euros a piece, so three of them are as much as a single FW Earthshaker artillery. The only real downside is that the kits are very detailed clocking in at around 270 parts each, so it takes a while to assemble.

Indeed. The Gatling/Volley Gun ones are even nastier, and you have the secondary benefit of twin-linking your weapons the turn the squad inside piles out.

A new Astra Millitarum codex in 2016 is very likely. At April 2014, it's one of the oldest.

Am was one of the last codex if not the last one of 6th ed. So they are falling behind many of the others
