Hey guys,

As you may have seen in some earlier posts of mine, I've started putting together a small Inquisitorial force, since I am stuck out in Russia away from my models at home.

Things have mostly come together now and my 'army' is almost done, so now I am getting ready to add some allies. From a thematic perspective, I'm really into the 'gothic' side of 40k; religious fanatic, robes, crusaders, fluttering banners and flags, relics, the whole shebang.

What jump out at me most are the Sisters of Battle and Black Templars.

HOWEVER - because I also want to work with army elements that I've not had experience with before, I had resolved that my second addition to my force would be some mechanised Valhallans (probably two squads and a command squad); with full Chimera and Leman Russ support. My Inquisitorial troops mostly consist of red, black and gold - I think that the Valhallan coulour scheme, heavy use of antiquated and slightly steampunkish stuff as well as their Russian roots (I need to pay homage to my host nation ;&gt will blend well. Obviously the Inquisition also lacks Heavy Support options beyond Land Raider transports, so Leman Russes lend themselves well here.

So if we assume that I am working with the following:
Spoiler:
-20 Acolytes with Hotshot Lasguns
-6 Acolytes with Plasma Guns
-6 Acolytes with Meltaguns
-12 Crusaders
-9 Death Cult Assassins
-4 Priests (1 /w Eviscerator)
-3 Jokaero
-4 Psykers
-2 Inquisitors (one with a Hell Rifle, the other magnetised and modular)

-4 Chimeras (Chimerae?)
-3 Leman Russ Battle Tanks

On top of that I might add the aforementioned Vostroyans; probably for zooming off in their Chimeras to hold objectives.

What would synergise well with this? I'm still a total newb to this edition, not even read a rulebook, but...

As I understand - Sisters offer me better Priests than those I already have, have Exorcists, and awesome medium infantry with 3+ armour saves who can hold objectives more effectively than Guard can (though Guard offer me tanks; is there a way to take Leman Russes without infantry?)

But Black Templars seem awesome; though I prefer the SoB's aesthetics, Black Templars have access to Crusader Squads; which means I can take 5 man squads with heavy weapons who can sit on objectives and a big blob of 10 with special weapons, an extra power weapon and neophyte meatshields - all in a Land Raider that's scoring on objectives.

It seems to me that my Inquisitorial force can offer awesome utility with Psykers and a plethora of special/heavy weapons; it makes a good supporting army. The Leman Russes offer some durability and heavy-hitting. The army needs troops to hold objectives and, perhaps, a 'big 'n' scary assault unit;'

So the questions this all ultimate boils down to:

-Should I use Sisters of Battle as my objective scorers instead of Guardsmen?
-Can Guard be fielded with only their tanks?
-Do Sisters have any neat toys that I'll want; e.g. Exorcists or Immolators?
-Do Black Templars offer more to an army than sisters?
-Is it possible to take Sisters for objectives and Black Templars as my assault unit plus heavy weapon support?

I know this is a lot of questions.... and it's probably just the case that I need to go and read a rulebook. But what is the best way to construct this force, please?

Edit: For the record, my one opponent in this area exclusively uses MEQs; CSM and DA

I'm not the guy to advice you on tactics and list building but you can have a lot of fun with Inquisition models.

I've been having some fun using Empire Handgunners and Swordsmen as henchmen, though Brettonians and Flaggellents also work very well. Using Empire handguns as your hotshot guns (maybe with a hose or wire connecting them to a powerpack?) would give them a distinct and unique look.

Bretts easily convert into Crusaders and Woodelfs can make for some neat ninja looking cultists.
