Hello,

Have you ever thought of what would happen if the universes of Warhammer 40k and Star Wars will merge? In the anticipation of the new Star Wars, we’ve done a small diorama piece of an encounter between a Chaos Sith Lord and the loyal Space Marine Jedi Master. Take a look at it below and take a look at our gallery as well at the other dioramas we’ve done!

Are you counting the days until the premiere as well?

Nice work on the diorama. However the OSL is off by a lot. I don't mean to sound harsh but, this seems to be a trend for AW work. I do not doubt the skill in the painting I doubt the technique of how AW apply OSL.

Ah considering its star wars themed, its no biggie that it makes no sense.

personally i despise the movies, everything that comes with it.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

Generally I'd agree (well, sometimes. I tend to either love or hate AW's airbrush work, depending on the context and the rest of the model) but in this case I think it works. Rather than thinking of it as a mini, I see this as a heavily stylised diorama/basically a 3d 'painting', and in that regard, I think it works rather well.

Good stuff!

I actually really like it. It's a cool idea, and nicely done

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Well, that's exatly the point - it's a piece recreating a bit the "poster feel" of the oppositeness of evil (red) and good (blue), as it's commonly depicted in the Star Wars.

Im sorry, but I must say OSL is your weakest spot, and it keep ruining otherwise great paintjobs.

In this case, the lava, chain and red lightsabre is the exact same shade. The magma river actually looks awesome, but the lightsabre ought to be more intense and almost purple to bring out the traditional "evil lightsabre".
Lava and red lightsaber simply dont look the same, traditionally.

Further more, the lightsaber is pretty distinctly not such a wide light source. Googling "lightsabre duel" showed no reference at all when lightsabres shine up the eviorment like that (its even a thing how focussed and tight the lightsource is -no wonder considering the light effect is added after the scene is shot, and could not possibly add an "osl effect" on the wielder).

Sorry if I sound harsh, but a simple google reference search how light effects look would be a great start before you embark on a project.

Well I love it, and honestly, anyone talking about how lightsabres 'really' work just loses me.

Osl is too much for me on this one I'm afraid. Love the context of the diorama though.

Dont know if that was aimed at my post, because Im the only one talking bout lightsabres, but I didnt say anything about how they "really work".
I made sure not to bring in any critique not based on how the lightsabre look.

Its kind of a thing, when you do a kind of homage picture, to get the basic estethic elements right.

On the other hand, because its a 40k merge, and 40k loves the massive osl, I guess my points are pretty silly

The lava is alright as is the lighting on the back wall but the intense lighting on and around their feet area is off. The light source wouldn't be producing the most intense light on and around their feet and considering that the lightsaber hilt is the closet source it it doesn't make sense that the most none lit area of the saber produced the most light. From a lighting perspective its like they have separate more intense light sources hovering just a few inches from the floor around their knees.

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Im not normally a fan of the OSL heavily done but for this diorama in particular, overdoing it seems rather appropriate.
