Recently started a new campaign where I am playing a Mountain Dwarf Barbarian, by the name of Darok, Breaker of Chains, Son of Pabel, and Slayer of Goblins, and I'm looking for ideas on how to advance him as I level up.

He is currently a Drow slave, and he is expected to remain in the Underdark for the duration of the campaign, levels 1-15

Currently he looks like:

Mountain Dwarf Barbarian 1 / Fighter 1
STR 20, DEX 17, CON 20, INT 15, WIS 16, CHA 14
AC 18 INIT +3 SPD 25 PP 15
Athletics, Deception, Perception, Stealth

Ideas I'm currently pondering, but I don't know what order would be best
  • Barbarian 1 - Unarmored Defense AC 18

  • Fighter 1 - Second Wind, Two Weapon Fighting

  • Rogue 1 - Sneak Attack, Expertise (Athletics. Stealth)

  • Barbarian 2 - Reckelss Attack, Danger Sense

  • Barbarian 3 - Primal Path (bear), 3 rage a day

  • Fighter 2 - Action Surge

  • Fighter 3 - Battle Master (Parry, Precision, Riposte)

  • Rogue 2 - Cunning Action

  • Rogue 3- Sneak Attack 2d6, Assasinate

  • Cleric 1 - Knowledge (Undercommon, Drow, Expertise Arcana, Expertise Religion) and some spells

  • Warlock 1 - Ranged Attack, Dark Blessing

  • Warlock 2 - Invocations (Unlimited Disguise Self and Alter Self)

You really want to multiclass to 5 classes?
The good stuff comes at higher levels.

I've rarely played in a campaign that lasts beyond 15th level, and never played up to 20th level, since 2nd edtion. Mutilclassing like this is fun and it's different from my last few characters.

First level I started as a Barbarian, because I knew the premise of the campaign, and I wanted a character who could function without lots of gear, or spells.
Second level, I took fighter for the Two weapon fighting style, to take advantage of his immense strength, dual wielding Drow Shortswords.
Third Level, I prayed to the Dwarven Gods for guidanace in this strange land, and became a priest of knoweldge, Leanring to speak Drow, Undercommon, and becoming an expert in Arcana and Nature to guide me threw my quest.
Create Water and Purify Food and Drink are pretty handy as well.

Proficiency replaced Base Attack Bonus, so Multi Classing doesn't hurt me there, and I'm picking up abilities that help him survive what he is currently facing in the Underdark.

    Other updates to the situation:

Master of Myriad Forms, the Allter Self at will ability of the Warlolck isn't available until level 15, pretty much killing the enthusiam I had for taking Warlock.

Had a 45 minute discussion with my Dungeon Master about how Barbarian Unarmed Defense and Sorcerer's Draconic Resiliance DO NOT STACK.
I lost the argument, so yeah, umm Darok is going to rediscover his Draconic Heritage now.

Did I ever tell you that my Great Grandfather was a Red Dragon ?
No ? Well, I think it's relevant now.
Being forced to survive in the Underdark, has pushed me beyond what I thought my limits were.
I feel something stirring in my blood...
    Something cold...
    and fond of Gold....

There was a section in WotC's forum with articles on what class abilities stack with other classes.
The forum was taken down last month, so try here:

While I appreciate the suggestion, it's more of a matter of him "thinking it should" like it would have in 3E than an actual rules debate at this point.

I'm okay it with now. I'm just going to take the 3 point bump to my unarmored AC and free spells

    Barbarian 1, Fighter 1, Cleric 1, Sorcerer 1

Those are some ridiculously high stats!

Amusingly enough the group I DM for just finished their second session of Out of the Abyss last night!

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

Out of the Abyss is great. The odds are soo stacked against you that you feel like just surviving each session is an accomplishment.

Our first night, the Drow Priestess noticed that Darok had broken his chains, which ended up in an EPIC battle. All the PCs ended up face down in the dirt, and one of them dead.

For attributes, we rolled 3 dice, discarded the lowest, and added 6

Darok Stoneskin, Breaker of Chains, Slayer of Demons, Enemy of Drow
    Mountain Dwarf Barbarian 1 / Fighter 1 / Cleric 1
    STR 20, DEX 17, CON 20, INT 15, WIS 16, CHA 14
    AC 18 INIT +3 SPD 25 PP 15
Athletics, Deception, Perception, Stealth, Arcana (E), Nature (E)
    Dwarf, Common, Undercommon, Drow
    Two Weapon Fighting Style
