I am currently painting a Leviathan Dreadnought in the BA scheme for a friend. I dont own any marines of any chapter nor do i know much about the differences.

The Dreadnought is mostly finished, just waiting on the 2 guns FW didnt send me accidentally as well as some transfer sheet stuff. However i wanted to see if i had any actual BA bits lying around, and i found this:

This is about the right size to go on one of the shoulders with little overhang. Im not sure which chapter this thing came from though, or which shoulder normally has the chapter sigil on it lol. I do know i would be painting this virtually solid gold since the BA flashy bits are usually gold. Actually probably solid gold with dark wash and shiny edges so its not flat looking.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's actually a Dark Angels bit.

I don't know where it comes from, bu it is from the Dark Angels line. Dark Angels icons are typically winged swords, where-as Blood Angels icons are winged tear (blood) drop shapes.

Chapter symbols are almost always displayed on the left shoulder of power armor also, but with Dreadnoughts it can be displayed on a variety of places, such as shoulders, fronts of the 'torso' armor, shins, anywhere really.

Hope that helps.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Damn, then i dont have any BA stuff.

Oh well, it was an interesting thought. This is a christmas gift so i cant bug him for any bits lol. Course probably wont get it to him on time thanks to FW screw-up (i have 1 drill 1 claw, but my 2 storm cannons are MIA).

As you can tell from my siggy i have orks, so i tend to gradually accumulate random bits from other races lol. Was hoping one of them is BA. Theres also an angel idol i found but its too large to fit on the main armor pieces on the torso and oddly shaped for a shoulder-cover so i passed on that. i COULD give it a chain and dangle it, but that'd be odd looking methinks lol

Thanks for the help though

...and now for some reason i have an urge to make a random ork use this as a legit sword LOL

Swords, skulls and wings are hardly symbols unique to the DA. That wouldn't look at all out of place on a BA anything imo.

If the sword is really a problem you can carefully cut it out and then you've just got a big winged skull.

I did this with a couple of the smaller icons on a Baal Predator:

Blood angels bits like you want come in the Storm Raven set, and I think in the Furioso dreadnought too.

Edit: However, most of the surfaces on the Leviathan are curved; it will be tricky to get those parts to sit nicely on the surface without leaving an unsightly gap.

Thats why i was intending it to be on the shoulder. It didnt fit perfectly persay, but only the tip of the sword and the tip of the wings went over the edge and it looked pretty cool to me.

But ive goofed in the past with marine icons and always get flak for it. Rather not be there at all than have it wrong lol. My Ghazghkull Thraka kustom bosspole has pieces from like 3 different Marine chapters, all of which are NOT Ultra Marines yet thats what i painted him as rofl. Oh the flak i got for that.

Also that Angel icon on the front of that tank is the other bit i found. I got 2 of them lying around. But i dont see a place i could put it and not look odd so i just threw it back in the bits box.
