Best way to use them?

Most people swear by the drop pod melta variant.

What about in jump packs? Would it make a difference if Dante was in the list giving the one D6 scatter?

Drop melta ASM aren't that good, unfortunately. Especially after the 7th ed AP 1 nerf.

Using DoA isn't that great because you can't assault. And you are in template/blast formation.

Unfortunately, ASM are pretty much inferior to grav bikers, land speeders, and attack bikes in that slot.

What about in the free rhino?

That's probably better, but neither are obj sec. Im not sure losing obj sec and taking up a fa slot is worth a rhino and a special weapon. These are the crappy choices ba players constantly have to make.

Being 'not that good' does not mean they should be skipped. Complaining about the nerf to AP1 is redundant. You have to kill tanks unless your plan is to ignore them. Drop pod ASM are a Turn 1 solution for killing something dangerous before it has the time to deal a lot of damage. No it's not perfect but it's a damn sight better than hoping the enemy tank doesn't chew through everything you placed on the table or allowing a Land Raider to move across the table and unload its potentially dangerous cargo.

Attack Bikes are valid but weak, and Land Speeders are just not valid by any means. Weaker even than the Attack Bikes. And two of either is fast approaching the cost of Drop Pod ASM, without the reliability of a Drop Pod to get them where they need to be.

I do however agree that other ways to use them are just not viable. We have Death Company if you want to get some MEQ bodies in Assault. Death Company atleast fix a lot of the issues ASM have, adding durability and attacks. Rhino Rush isn't awful, but as Martel said, without Obj Sec it's not going to be as tactical as it should be.

Okay so lets put it this way. If you are gonna use them either put em in drop pods or in a rhino (only for a mech list i suppose)?

I'd say, yes. As a jump pack unit, both Death Company and Sanguinary Guard are much better.
