Here's a quicky I painted up to see if I liked working with the Iron Warriors scheme and my take on how they would look.

Unsurprisingly this was a very fast paint scheme to pull together. I spent about 1 hour with this model including drying time, so 10 guys could easily be pumped out in an evening, which is good because I plan to do an excessively foot-slogging army per the fluff of the Iron Warriors.

What did surprise me was how fun it was to paint. I thought it would be very dull and ho-hum given the amount of metallics, but it was really an enjoyable process.

After it was all finished I washed the whole model with army painter strong tone (out of the dropper bottle, not the dip) and it really brought the silver to a good deep iron finish. My only issue with it is that it flattened out a lot more than anticipated. I had watered it down with airbrush medium but I think next time I will try using a gloss medium, just a bit more surface tension should hold the brown wash particles suspended off of the metal and keep a nice even finish. Anyone tried something like this before?

I think I'd like to do a bit more weathering etc. The bases will ultimately be a muddy urban rubble mix, and I'll build up the mud on to their feet. I also want to give some chipping a try, thinking a bright silver paint spot with an offset spot of black paint should create the desired effect.

I was strapped for any workable decals, I think I will probably get some micro-paint pens and try drawing in some icons and symbols freehand.

Thoughts, tips, C&C is much appreciated

Looks quite good. Nice work

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
