What are some suggestions on deployment on a 4x4 sized board?
I've seen the older Rules suggestions for 12 inches in each opposite corner, and holding anything undeployable in Reserves.
I will be running a First Game demo for a co-worker on my Kitchen Table-hammer 40,000 board. Would playing the Corners be a good start, or should I make it easier and play a 12 inch deployment from table half? He is runnino Tyranids, so might have a hard time deploying the 12" bubble.
Any other tips and suggestions for this sized game? He has been watching Battle reports, so he's not a complete noob, but this is the first time playing his army.
The points value will be from 500 to 750.

I personally dislike corner deployments, but it can work. The best way to set up for regular games is to have a 24" gap between the deployment zones as to avoid 1st Turn charges and other shenanigans, so it does not matter exactly which way but make sure you leave the gap there. I'd say anything over 1250 would not work except for the most elite army, 500-750 works great on that size.

I play 1000 point games on 4'x4' boards all the time, lots of room.
Since it's his first game I would suggest keeping it as simple as possible. Standard Dawn of War deployment 12" from the centre is good. And it gets the action going right away.
I would even set up the table before he arrives. Let him choose his table edge.
Keep his attention focused on playing the game, learning the basic mechanics and having fun. Worry about the extra rules like deployment, objectives, pre-game set up and the like for when he has a better handle on the basics.

12 inches on both sides with anything not deployable going into reserves. Unless you're running blobguard. Nid Gaunts or Green Tide, even 2000 points can comfortably fit on it with a little wiggling (if you are running one of the swarm armies...you might wanna consider something bigger, as you might not even have room on the whole table).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |
