									Hey everyone,

My fiancee' got me the new force awakens x wing starter for xmas and now I'm hooked. I have a b-wing and Advanced on the way and am wondering if getting the original starter set would be worth it.

Since we'll both be playing having an extra set of templates(I do have Star Trek ones however) and more dice(only have the core ones) would be nice so I'm mainly just wondering if the ships that come in it are worth it. Note I can get it for $25 on amazon.

So are the original Tie/X wing cards/upgrades any good. Also note that I'm not super competitive and will mostly just be playing for fun, so as long as the old core cards aren't complete trash they should be alright.

  Thanks!

Yep. Original box stuff is still decent.

Some decent tie pilots plus Luke in an Xwing. Can't get fluffier than that.

Extra dice and templates pretty handy too.

If you can get it at a reasonable price I'd say yes, for one spare dice / templates and asteroids are always handy.

The pilots and upgrade cards in the box aren't awesome but do include Biggs and R2-D2 (mech), but it is another 3 ships for (mostly) less the cost of three ships in blisters

									Extra Dice, Templates.

  Biggs and R2.

  Decently Priced Ships.

  I'd say worth it.

Yep, extra dice, templates and token's are always useful and the ships are cheaper than buying them individually. I've bought two of each core core set.

Don't forget the plethora of awesome TIE pilots as well. Both starter sets are worth having one of. As well as one expansion of each type of X-Wing and TIE, plus the big ship that comes with Porkins in the X-Wing.

Wow, so many helpful replies so quickly. This is why I love dakka xD.

Awesome. Most of what was said I had in the back of my mind; ships for the price, cost of templates and dice alone etc. Just needed some second(and 3rd, 4th, 5th etc) opinions.

									Yeah...
I'm generally in the camp of buying 2 of all the small base ships and 1 of each of the large. But then again... this comic was written about me.

Heads up, some of the templates for Attack Wing are different lengths so you can't really mix them.

I would say that the original starter set is still worth getting. The X-Wing just got a significant buff with Integrated Astromech and the original TIE Fighter has always been a very good ship. Plus hey, more dice and templates. One of each starter set is a pretty good way to start this game. One or two more ships for each side can get you to the standard 100 points, depending on what you get.

If I decide to dive further into X-Wing, I'm definitely getting at least 2 of the old starter.

However, I'm still investing in a ton of games already: Star Wars Armada, Dropfleet Commander, Federation Commander, Babylon 5 Wars, Star Trek FASA...

I still don't know how I've been able to afford college all this time.

It's been my experience that college kids never have enough money, so they always maximize what they have. When you get married and have kids, you have no life outside your marriage, family, and work, and you have no money as you now have to pay for a house, car(s), and children. Unless you somehow married a woman that shares your love of gaming, and/or you work in the gaming industry, or decide not to have kids (and be treated like a pariah by your friends and family with kids).

I've known plenty of folks that got married and had to put their toys away and be "adults".

Is a second Original Starter Set worth the money? If you already have one, and been playing for a while, probably not. If you are just getting into the game, I think the perfect combo would be one original starter set, and one new starter set. Both sets have cards you want, but as they are all unique, you only need one set. The models themselves can be bought in expansion packs, along with extra dice and maneuver templates. I can't really think of any reason why a person would want to purchase a second original starter set anymore besides maybe a break on the cost of an X-wing and two TIE Fighters over the cost of three expansion packs (MSRP $40 vs. $45, but you get all the extra dice and templates).

Yeah, I'd say one of each set is now better than doubling up on a single starter. It gives you more variety of named characters. After that, you probably should go with the single ship expansions for their named pilots.
