As the title suggests, I've settled on these two sizes for most everything I do brush wise, and would like to buy a nice pair for the new year.

Money not being an object, can anyone offer suggestions for higher quality size 1 and 2 pointed rounds for acrylic only?

i just bought the whole set of Scharff 3000's from Secret Weapon Miniatures...
they are amazing brushes!!!
high quality Sable, full body, and the 2 keeps just as fine a tip as the 2/0...
SW gives you a nice discount on the price, too...
highly recommended...
i would suggest buying all four sizes, as they will each come in handy...

cheers

Good to hear about the Scharff. How do they stand up to W&N, Jah?

I've never tried them, mostly because with shipping, even on discount, they come out to more expensive than WN S7 here.

Personally, I'm a huge Winsor & Newton Series 7 fan, and use the Size 1 quite a bit. I don't use the size 2 or 3 very much, because I often go to a flat, filbert, or angled flat when it gets to that size requirement.

Higher quality, really like my W&N 7 series; lesser quality, but good - reaper's pro brushes; much cheaper, but not as long lasting - most of the hobby store ones like cottman, w&n lower quality series etc.

I've heard good things about Rosemary brushes - but not having tried them myself I can't directly comment. Some people say that W&N 7s quality has gone down hill, or has had more variation, I've not had that problem but I've only been using them for a few months.

@Talys: i only used the W&N short Sable ones, so it is hard to compare to the full-bodied Scharff...
W&N have always done me right for quality, but are getting harder to get at a discount in the US...
the Scharff were easy to adapt to, and feel like quality brushes, so we'll see if they last as many years as my W&N's did...

@Guildenstern: i don't thing i would buy Reaper Pro again...
mine went wonky right off the bat...
their drybrushes are pretty cheap, though, and do the job...

Interesting, I do a lot of ordering from Secret weapon but never looked at their brushes. Maybe I need to pick them up as well as the W&N 7.

W&N s.7 is awesome. But smaller than size one I actually prefer DaVinvi Maestro brushes. They seem to hold the paint a LOT better while keeping a Perfect tip. My W&N equivalent is not that good.

Rosemary 33 series. Don't seem quite as high calibre as Windsor Newton 7 series, but half the price. I've used a 1 and 0 to do the majority of my painting for about a year, to the extent that I barely use my W&N anymore. The 0 holds it's point much better than it's W&N counterpart.

the only problem with Rosemary & Co. for US customers, is that the shipping pretty much wipes out any savings...
you might as well just order W&N 7's and DaVinci from DickBlick if you are in the US...

one thing to keep in mind when ordering brushes, Kolinsky Sable is better than Red Sable...
when given the option, i would always go with Kolinsky...
