I am an attendee at previous events however i do not represent the store nor am I the TO.

The event is open to all 40K players AFAIK. You can bring the strongest list you can think of given the rules posted above. Note that it is a Maelstrom event and you will need to complete objectives. Secondly while you can bring a gray army of doom.. the scoring of the event supports hobbyists. Thus fully painted based with a display board and all gaming material gives attendees bonus points. Your opponent can also give you a soft score as to what they thought of you as a player and your list. If you bring the latest and greatest list and act in a manner not in keeping with the spirit of the event no doubt you will see the result in your scores. While the ranking will be known at the end of the day. The event is a random draw. Thus every time you complete a Maelstrom card.. or another objective.. score bonus points for your hobby aspect and play nicely with others you are entered into a prize pool draw.

With a 5 dollar entry fee.. this isnt high stakes 40K. Rather its a group of gamers who gather together and enjoy three thrilling rounds on very nice tables. Will is the TO and works very hard at putting together a quality event and he even goes so far as to link the missions together with a common narrative. This is for the love of the game!

In closing the majority of the players were in their late twenties or older. This made for a great environment and I did not encounter any negativity in any of my games nor did I see any questionable sportsmanship/behavior at other tables.

I hope this provides you with some insight.

Hi Will,

Are there any rules on using our own faction specific tactical objective cards with the regular deck? (eg the deck that come with the White Scars data cards set)

or will everyone be using the same standard deck?

mongo8089's response was very accurate, you can bring whichever list you prefer, just know your overall score may be affected. Hope to see you out there!

There is no restriction to using your own faction's objectives over the Standard Rulebook ones. However, you must use the same deck/chart throughout the whole event and you'll be allowed to discard/ignore 3 tactical objectives of your choosing in each game.
