Good afternoon,

I have a hive crone/harpy kit, and I also have a hive crone model. I was wondering, should I build another hive crone, or should I build the harpy?

I'm looking at this from a game play perspective, not modeling.

I have zero experience using the harpy. Any players out there who can give me some info on the harpy? I'm not anti-spam, but according to the codex, they fill very different roles, and the crone seems pretty darn good for the points.

I max flyrants when I can, so I am not suffering for air power. But the harpy and the crone are relatively cheap.

What are the pros and cons of each unit?

Links to previous discussions would be greatly appreciated!

And thanks for any advice on this issue!

The Harpy has one of the very few S9 shots in the codex. It's still AP4 but against a poor player the blast can make all the difference and rack up the hits. It can put the fear into things like Death Company, Tau Suits, anything T4 with some little bonus that they pay points for. Negating FNP on T4 or instagibbing T4 multi wound models is a big bonus. I am never upset for bringing Heavy Venom Cannons on things other than Flyrants.

It's only because you have a Crone that I say that by the way. If you're maxing out on Flyrants anyway, a Crone gives you a good amount of Haywire already so may as well shoot something for the other kind of PITA units in the game.

Crone can also deny FnP and instagib T4, it just has to vector strike in order to do so and can only kill 1 model. It's AP2 though, and a small blast is unlikely to hit more than 1 or 2 guys anyway unless your opponent is bunched up. But yea, if you already have a Crone, a Harpy could mix things up, and the spore bombs could be fun to play around with. Best thing to do is magnetize it, can't go wrong ther and you can playtest either one or just have one for different scenarios.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Judging by the video, magnetizing seems like a lot of work.

I think I'll just build the harpy.

Nothing wrong with adding a little more variety to my army. Fast attack is something I tend to ignore compared to other slots in the FOC, so it will be fun working the crone and harpy into the line up.

Heavy venom cannons it is!
