Subject: Blending 30K with 40K?

I bought the box set Betrayal at Calth with the expressed purpose of adding the Space Marines contained therein to my Imperial Fists army. Are there any rules that prevent me from blending 30K Space Marines with 40K Space Marines?
|
The difficult I do immediately, the impossible takes me a few minutes longer. |

I don't see why not, myself. It can't possibly be any worse than Tau or Eldar.

From a rules standpoint: yes. There are significant differences between any 30K force and their 40K brothers rules wise, so the two forces won't combine. From a model standpoint: no. Everything in the B@C box has versions in both 30K and 40K, so can be used in a 40K SM army. As an example, 40K Red Scorpions are typically shown in variations of the Mk IV armor from B@C, Contemptors have rules (IA2E2), etc...

I think Martel thinks you mean blending rules, if you're just using the 30K models in 40K there's no issue.
Rules-wise yes, you'd have to pick either the 30K Legion rules, or the 40K C:SM rules, you can't use both together.

There is no mini in the BaC box that can not be represented in 40k.
The terminators might not get anything special for their model, IIRC in 30k, those particular ones are S&P, but with a 4++. But work just fine in 40k as either a shooty squad or a full lightning claw one. Fine as in legal under the codex, not touching effectiveness.
The dread can be fielded either as a MM or AsC armed one, with a powerfist w/stormbolter. Probably spring for the venerable upgrade. Contemptor dreads have distinct rules, but he can be fielded vanilla.
Tac squads going to tac squad. Besides a different aesthetic, these port over casually.
HQs are both legal builds for 40k guys. A little kitbashing make them a little more effective, but they can be played as-is.

You are correct. I want to use the 30K models under 40K rules.

Yeah, that's even more unobjectionable. I thought you meant 30K legions vs 40K chapters.

No. I intend on painting them in the colors of the 3rd Company and building individual squads out if them.

It's quite fine to use those models in 40k. There are plenty of older suits of armor in a 40k chapter, many off the Marine boxes even includes elements of the older armor on the sprue. This just gives you lots of the older armor pieces

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

model wise: no, so long as you give them the correct guns the Fists would have plenty of MKIV and Cataphractii armor still even in the 41st Millenium
Rules wise: ohhh yes, the 30k list is leagues different then the 40k list

Having played 30k vs 40k several times, the overall power of 30k is quite a bit lower than 40k in most cases. So if you play 30k with 40k, against just 40k it may be an uphill battle.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I noticed that the Bolters in the box set do not look like the 40K versions. Are they essentially the same weapon?

Yes, and all the marks of power armor are just power armor.

Okay, good. I am now looking forward to building up my Imperial Fists with these. It should make for an impressive army. Just gotta hope that the dice rolls are equally impressive.
