It's all in the title.

To quote a fictional character... "Let's make this fun!"

Not really, they suffer really badly from the lack of assault grenades, meaning that most things they assault will be going before them if they're in cover, so they might get badly hurt before they even get to strike. Their special rule isn't all that great either, making them not really worth it. Raptors are arguably better.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Go with raptors, chaos has a nice little bonus where their assault troops can take two special weapons and not give up there chainsword and bolt pistol.

Warp Talons can be ok if used with daemons for the precision deepstrike

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

They look so cool- wish they were worth it.. But they're not. Raptors are better. Without assault grenades they suffer when charging through cover and the deep-strike-blind rule is useless. They are marginally better in Khorne Daemonkin when they have both Daemon of Khorne and Mark of Khorne rules, while being able to take advantage of daemon banners... But still not good.

Sweet models and concept, but there's better ways to kill MEQ.

The only thing Warp Talons do better is charge MEQ outside of cover.

The answer is no.

I have defended them a few times in the past lol. But if you ask the question like that? No, they're not.

They have a very niche role, but even for that they are overcosted, due to several shortcomings like the lack of grenades and unreliable deepstrike shenanigans (that aren't even that good if you do hit).
That said, what ISN'T overpriced in that codex? And if your not playing competitively, they can and will still get the job done . Provided you pretty much tailor the rest of the list to make them work, in order to get around stuff like the grenades.

The Khorne daemonkin version fare a lot better mind you. Being daemons of khorne and able to accurately deepstrike, not to mention the blood tithe buffs and formations. You can also potentially get around the no grenades part by using skull cannons. Of course, in this case people will complain that they aren't bikes/hellhounds/heldrakes, but meh. They are at least useable in Daemonkin. I guess YMMV, but I for one don't even use heldrakes in the regular csm dex and I don't miss them one bit. I don't care how good it is, I'm not paying a penny for that...thing lol.

I'd much rather take a fire raptor or so. Which brings me to FW. If you happen to be using forgeworld, they can give Warp talons a bit of a an edge. The 1st war of armaggedon can buff their invuln to a 4++ (if using daemonkin). Not that I'd know why you would do that with daemonkin, but hey...it's a possibility. Throw a grimoire on there and hey presto: 2++ warp talons, because you know....reasons.

So yea, if you want to use them you can, but know what your getting yourself into. And preferably use the daemonkin warp talons if you want more bang for your buck. At least there it's not so much a case of: they suck, but more: everything else is still better.

In melee, they are absolutely brutal beasts that will kill anything MEQ or less very hard. Getting them there is the hard part, as they are too fragile for the amount of points they cost. Now, if they were to do a Tzeentch Daemonkin book along the same lines as the Khorne one, a combo of Mark and Daemon of Tzeentch would make Warp Talons pretty solid. 3+/4++ save, rerolling 1's? Yes please!

A small squad is not half bad depending on meta. What they do good is kill 3+ stuff out of cover. Guess what, it's bikes. Marine bikes and ork bikes mostly.

If you're using a csm codex, i'd probably go with nurgle or slaanesh.

As if Bikes can't make use of cover? Dangerous Terrain is such an overrated problem and I stick Bikers in cover all the time.

Warp Talons are just simply going to be garbage without a major price cut to something like 25 points, and even then Raptors will still be the better option because Melta Guns and Grenades.

As noted, they're not great.
They can be scary as in the Khorne Daemonkin book - both due to Daemon of Khorne and, more importantly, Blood For The Blood God!.

I'd only every use minimum sized units anyway, but for a small unit they can seriously rip and tear if you get the +1 attack tithe boost off.
