War convocation is a finesse army, you have lots of different units that can do lots of different things. Be careful not to lose your assaulters as they run across the map. Using shroudpsalm twice in a row is really obnoxious for your opponent because anyone in cover is going to get a 2+ cover save for 2 game turns, allowing you to whittle down your opponent and keep your guys alive. Versatility is how you win your games. Practice practice practice, you will only get better as you try it out and think about different ways to fight against different armies. I personally run my war convocation with a knight crusader and I throw in a kastelan robot maniple. I don't use the flesh tearers formation for the drop pods because I like having more units for canticles and the dropping units don't count for figuring out how many units you have performing canticles. Ruststalkers and infiltrarors are super useful units, very mobile and viscous in cc, they have routinely won me games. Rangers are probably the most lackluster because they don't add very much for you except as a backfield objective holder. I give my tech-priest Dominus the stasis field for a 2++ invul when he goes to ground.

Well what models did you intend on fielding?? The skitarii side of it is decided for you obviously (I'd go for the ballistarri w/lascannon) , but the cult mechanicus side is pretty flexible. If you give us what you aim to field, we can help you with how to play it

Are kastelan Robots really worth it in a War Convocation? I figure you can get cheaper shots with Kataphron Destroyer or Breachers. The survivability difference isn't all that importance, because you are trying to shoot you opponent off the table. Maybe that is just me.

Having played against War Convocation a lot, Kataphron Destroyers with Grav are nasty, especially with that 2+. Kastelans are good, but I've seen the Johnny 5s do some serious work. Usually they are the number 1 priority for me, unless I've got flyers in which case skyfire Dunecrawlers need to die first.

Our most common point is 2000 at our tourney.
Is convocation an alfa strike army or do I whittle my enemy down?
I'm an aggressive player and often use my armies to attack, I'm no gunline player. How do my playing style fit an AdMech army?

Try and fit a Flesh Tearers detachment in there, you can get up to 6 drop pods for your skitarii

Most commonly I play against a War Convocation with Flesh Tearers allied in (for the drop pods mainly). My buddy will drop those Kataphrons (Johnny 5s as we call them) as objective/board control, usually to where I absolutely cannot ignore. Or he'll put his Vanguard w/ Plasma in the Pods, put em backfield and make them hard to ignore. Yeah, they die most of the time, but can put out some shots, and if you can reach cover, will survive a lot longer when you pop that 2+ cover save.
Infiltrators have always been a hyper aggressive unit that, honestly, I despise. They play just far enough forward that if I engage his other units with anything other than long range guns, I risk getting tied up by said infiltrators. The Neurstatic Aura can really hurt when tied up against them. Use cover and move them forward and they become outstanding harassment units.
He also runs his Knight Crusader with the Avenger Gatling Cannon, which has always done some work.
I wouldn't describe it as a true alpha strike list, but if you like playing aggressively War Convocation can certainly work for you, but there is some finesse to it's blitzkrieg method.
We play 1850 points 99% of the time, so at 2000 you definitely have room to see which units really benefit from your playstyle.
