I... actually don't know. Help?

I've been thinking about some sort of standard loadout for my WGBL's. My Grey Hunter squads are usually 9 man strong with Chainswords and two Meltas. I'm thinking, would a WGBL with Wolf Claw and Combi-Melta be good? Or just Wolf Claw? I want the Grey hunters to be in close range for shooting, and assaulting if necessary.

If you want WGBL to stick with Grey Hunters, then take a Rune Priest instead.

WGBL isn't going to make anything just by standing there. Assaulting with 2-attack dudes walking on foot and with no ap2/high strength is a bad idea.

Psyker is absolutely a different story. Buffs, throws punches etc. and 2+ armor to tank as a cherry on top.

Ya, if your going to take a battle leader, your best idea is to have him on a thunderwolf with your thunderwolf squad.

A rune or wolf priest in a melee based squad are a better idea, because they bring squad wide buffs and benefits rather than just some extra attacks.

So... I should take a Rune Prieest for every squad of Grey Hunters? I was talking about the upgrades you can take in the squads for what, 10 points?

Those are called Wolf Guard Pack Leaders, the Battle Leaders are the HQ option.

For your original question I don't usually take WGPL's because I like the hidden power sword/fist but when I have the points I take a sword and 2 meltas on normal guys and a fist and combi-melta on the WGPL. This way I have 3 melta shots when i come down in a drop pod (if walking i take plasma and combi-plasma) and the the whole squad would have 3 attacks on the charge including the fist. Versus a normal guy carrying a PF only getting 2 attacks on the charge and the WGPL with a PW getting 4 attacks.

9 grey hunters cannot have 2 meltas.

So if you want that second melta it would have to be combi. A fist or claw is good backup and the other or both on a pack leader could be helpful.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Oh, derp.

Sorry for that then.

He is Wolf Guard Pack Leader, btw. Know your units' names

Having TDA around with a combi-weapon and power axe is decent. Not having 2+ renders your chances in challenge and thus your special melee weapon useless.

If not with TDA, smack combiweapon, probably a meltabomb and you are good to go.

I'm a big fan of TDAWG leading units that aren't taking a rhino, esp at the front of a unit like LFs.

I like to leave them very cheap, like combi weapon and power weapon, or storm bolter and storm shield and then put a hidden axe or fist in the regular squad.

Regular pack leaders are cute if you put a combi plas on them in a squad full of plasma, but that is about it, not much utility.
