Here's a hyper-competitive list involving skitarii and a skyhammer force - besides perhaps EWO-heavy tau, this should be pretty brutal against near any TAC list I can think of. The skyhammer has the option of coming in first or second to counter other alpha-strike forces. Between the arc rifles, massed wounds from the vanguard, grav from the devs and 1st turn charges from the assault marines I think this could be a horrible list for an opponent to fight. Fliers I'd mainly ignore and EWO tau I'd try and overwhelm 1st turn so as much gets through as possible. Thoughts and C+C?

It is very strong as are almost all skitarii / skyhammer podlists. That said, competitive Tau or Tyranid lists will most likely hard counter it quite easy.

If you are looking to compete with top tier armies, I don't see this competing with an Eldar army with 2 Wraithknights. Can you elaborate how this list would handle a dual Wraithknight army?

Yeah, I was thinking tyranids might be a hard match up, I reckon they could take down a few flying tyrants over the course of the game though! I'd just have to go for objectives with the pods and things and outscore them.
Tau would probably be more of an issue, particularly ghostkeels, riptides and stormsurges... Not sure if there's much of a way around that other than to try and overwhelm them first turn as far as possible.
I was thinking eldar wouldn't be so bad a matchup - one wraithknight should die to the skyhammer, and the rest of the army could go after scatterbikes and wave serpents etc. They'd be fairly weak to this sort of thing I'd imagine. The skitarii will still wound the WKs on sixes which would help whittle them down. Surprisingly eldar aren't my top concern for once!
I'd like to play an imperial knight heavy army with this haha

Wraithknights should not be an issue with 21 shots per Vanguard squad, 6s wound regardless of toughness and are double wounds.

You need like 40-50 vanguard to kill a Wraithknight in a single turn
