With the release of Mont'ka my love of giant Tau stompy suits was rekindled, so over december (well a week at the beginning of december) I've assembled and painted my Riptide Wing formation! loved my old Tau army right uptil selling it and was great to get back to painting giant battlesuits!

Nice simple scheme but a one week turn around from sprue to finished with some minor conversions in the mix to add a big more personality. Really happy with the end result!

How the hell do you assemble and paint SIX riptides in one week? I guess it helps that it was Christmas break and all. They look great!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I cant paint over the Christmas period since I have my kids down, they were fitted in between night shifts at work. Got into a rhythm with them and have built riptides aplenty before so it was fun.

I really like what you did with the modeling, having the double Burst Cannons and the extra long Ion Accelerator. It makes them look far more imposing.

The only thing I would change if they were mine is to move the secondary weapons somewhere as they look a little off in their normal place. They just seem a little too high off the Riptide body.

I'll pluck you like a flower.

I dont think the height is a huge issue for the smart missile system since they track independanty but agree the fusion blasters on the ion suits sit very high up, one of them has been relocated along the Ion acelerator in the standing up suit which works alot better.

I like the Fusion one the arm a lot more than on the shoulder things. The issue isn't really a fluff or utility thing, just an aesthetics thing for me since the shoulders on the Riptides are already the highest point of the model and the weapons added there are pretty tall themselves, making the entire image seem too stretched out. This isn't a problem with the other suits since for example the head on a Crisis Suit is above the shoulder and when you put a Fusion Blaster on it, the top of the Fusion Blaster is at the same height, or just under, the antennas on the head.

I mean it's completely a personal preference thing, so if you like it more power to you. Though I think moving the missile systems down to be in line with the shoulder blades would look better, and it can fill up the open space between the shoulders a little.
