I have a question, because there is a little bit of confusion on my part.
So if I get a Forge Lord, it says he can purchase Wargear from the Techmarine entry, but does that allow the Forge Lord to have a retinue of four servitors just like the Techmarine?

A Legion Centurion upgraded to a Forge Lord has all the items a Legion Centurion comes with base (Power Armor, Bolt Pistol, Chainsword or combat blade, and Frag and Krak Grenades). He has access to all the Legion Centurion Options.
Then, due to the Consul rule, you may upgrade him to a "Forge Lord". The Legion Centurion then gains Artificer Armor and a Servo-Arm. The Forge Lord also gains access to all the options under the Legion Techmarine. This means a Forge Lord has access to both the Legion Centurion options and the Legion Techmarine options.
A Legion Techmarine pays for Servitor-automata- he does not come with any and must purchase them separately. As they are an option for a Legion Techmarine and a Forge Lord may purchase Legion Techmarine upgrades, then yes, a Forge Lord may purchase up to four Servitor-Automata.
I just wanted to make it clear that a Forge Lord gains BOTH the Legion Centurion options AND the Legion Techmarine options.
TLDR- YES, a Forge Lord may take up to 4 Servitor-automata.

Thank you. I plan on kitting them all out with power fists or lascutters. A nice hitting close combat unit then.

Take the fist. Lascutters are awful against anything that isn't pretty much the broad side of a barn/bulkhead
