Lets say you have the option to take Chosen as troops or you're using the Purge Detachment.

when it comes down to it, is More Plasma/Flamers/Melta per rhino, running a small 5 man squad of Chosen, better or worse than more bullet catchers for around the same cost, 10 normal CSM in a rhino?

Chosen with 4-5 flamers in a rhino vs 10 marine with 2 meltaguns in rhino.

I would much rather prefer 2x10 cultists and max out on hvy n fast choices.

The Purge FOC has no Fast Attack slot, but the logic does apply as a whole.

Chosen are too expensive for being merely MEQ bodies, Plague Marines get their Special Weapons cheaper than the Vanilla Marines. Five Plague Marines gets you two Plasma Guns and a Rhino for 185 points. 10 Vanilla Marines with two Plasma Guns and a Rhino is 205 points. That's pretty stupid if you ask me.

That actually brings up a good point. I hadn't looked at Cult units because I was going for an Undivided force and really only was looking at the purge for the extra heavy Slot, but Plague Marines would be much better than just pure plasma spam.

Isn't it a bit of a waste to pack 4 special weapons into a rhino? They are going to have to spend most of the game on foot to be able to fire them.

As such, wouldn't it be a good idea to have a few (more) ablative wounds when running 4/5 special weapon chosen?

Slayer-Fan123 if all you are looking at is getting 2 plasma guns in a rhino as cheap as possible then chosen will do that for 155 points.

The Chosen will also die as quickly as the basic Marine. You're basically paying 4 more points per Marine to get T5, FNP, AND Fearless. Plague Marines make them look like terrible buys when you're wanting to actually keep your weapons on the table.

What is the other 2 points per model for? Losing an attack (well, just losing 4 attacks across the squad) but gaining plague knives/defensive grenades?

Defensive Grenades give access to throwing them and potentially blinding a unit. That's absolutely worth it.

I've run chosen in a rhino with 2 melta and 2 flamers. Rhino protects them a little bit from small arms and they shoot either 2 meltas or 2 flamers out of their to shooting ports depending on the target. In a 400 OT combat patrol tourney I ran that unit with a defiler and won the tourney.
I wouldn't normally recomend chosen as they are overpriced- but sometimes a small unit of them can really put in work under the right circumstances.
I like running 5 Plasmas using Drazicht's Ravagers from Crimson slaughter. Or I infiltrate squads with Cypher (in combo with Huron this is a sneaky infiltrating chaos list).
Other than those 2 examples I only run them in combat patrols where there weapons do good and a rhino is usually enough protection.

Thanks for all of the tips guys.

After looking at it. The PM do everything I was looking to do better than the Chosen were.
