I have 2k IG army that I used in 5th edition and am thinking about getting back into the game. I don't want to just put my old army on the way side, but still want to try something different. Since 7th edition allows you to bring allies I was thinking about bring either one to the two Aaptus Mechanus armies or a Imperial Knight or two. And advice?

I think it'd help to know what you have in your IG army. In general you can't go wrong with a Knights. They tend to fill the gaps in the IG army better.

In general IG are on the below average side of the performance curve with the best performance coming from large platoons or heavily vehicle armies. Either makes you very vulnerable to particular armies that are pretty prevalent in the current meta.
