I think someone made a similar thread a few days back but the conclusion basically was:
Thunderwolves of all kinds.

While not the most powerful in terms of hitting power, I find Flayed Ones offer a very good cost to attack with some good durability with resurrection protocols and a 4+ save.
Canoptek Wraiths also also tarpits from robot hell, especially if you get resurrection protocols on them with a Canoptek Harvest.

Outside of Strength-D it has to be Wraiths, they will never die.

Mega Armour Warboss with a powerklaw. Last Ork battle I had, he demolished a Wyvern, 2 squads of Marines, a captain, and died from exploding a Dreadnought.
Got lucky against poor rolls on the multi melta, but they can ball.

I'm gonna go with wraiths. The main weakness of most CC units these days is getting to combat quickly and survivingoverwatch. Wraiths especially in the formation are very durable and they are fast. Most other units are to slow or not durable enough to make a difference.

I love my orks, but can never do well with PK because of the int. 1 stuff.
My vote would be wraithknight of course, but non-d I would say TWC or wraiths, depending on if you want to obliterate everything or tarpit a key unit

MA Warbosses in general serve me very well. THey instant kill most things, are fairly tanky and are just plain cool.

Solitaire with cegorach's rose and haywire grenades. For under 200 points it is fast, hard hitting, and threatens every unit in the game. 6 attacks base with a once per game 10 attacks BASE (meaning twelve attacks at init 10 with ws9) any 6's rolled to hit on 7 (11) of those attacks will wound automatically at ap2, the other attack is str6 ap2 mastercrafted and shred and if it rolls a 6to wound has instant death. Any of the normal attacks are str4 if they didn't autowound. The unit moves 12" ignores all of the penalties for difficult terrain, has a once per game move (that gives the 10 attacks) that lets it move 1d6x the round number and ignore all terrain and models while doing so.
Toughness 3 with 3w, and it cant be joined/join other units are the only real drawbacks, but it does have a 3+ invul save and eternal warrior

Wraiths. You asked for viable assault units, and you got them.
3++ means that most shooting bounces right off, the possible 4+ Resurrection drives it home. Rending allows them to threaten pretty much anything. Whip Coils bypass the Necron's poor initiative. T5 and two wounds makes them difficult to kill and very hard to ID. Relentless from the formation means they can fire heavy weapons then assault. Straight up ignore any and all terrain. Move 12".

HQ: Lysander, Chapter Master, maybe a few others
Elites: Mega-Armoured Nobz, Death Company or Grotesques.
Troops: Ugh, Genestealers? Boyz? Not a lot springs to mind here
Fast Attack: Thunderwolf Cavalry, Canoptek Wraiths or Reavers.
Heavy Support: Again, not a lot. Possibly Trygon lol. I'm missing an obvious choice.
LoW: Wraithknight, Draigo.

Technically Daemon Princes fit into HS slot if you have a GD, which would make them one of the more powerful Melee units in that slot (but only that slot).

In order for wraiths to be really good at melee, you have to take other units in a formation.
Assault marines in the formation that lets them assault the turn they come in after devestators wreck face are pretty good at melee, doesn't mean that assault marines are really good at melee.

Manz Missiles are a very effective fire and forget unit able to take out many things more expensive than them while not being a point sink.

In short, Codex: Daemons.
HQ slot has:
- Be'lakor for guaranteed Invis.
- Str.D Bloodthirster.
- LoC w/Boomstick + 2 greater gifts + 3 levels of Divination (fish for Precog - profit?!)
- Kipper w/Telepathy
- Unkillable Tzheralds w/spawn farming swords. (and Malefic/Divination spam)
- Slaany Heralds on Steed w/Exalted Locus + ap2. (and Rending for lolz)
- Khorne Heralds on Jugger w/Exalted Locus + Axe of Khorne. (ap2 + 6 to-wound = Instant Death)
Elites slot has:
- Bloodcrushers. Lead them with Karanak and they get Scout USR.
Troops slot has:
- Daemonettes w/stupid amounts of Rending attacks. (as in, Orks will be jealous of the number of dice you throw!)
Fast slot has:
- Seekers with even more Rending attacks. (lead 'em with an Exalt Locus Herald and laugh)
- Screamers with S5/ap2 attack. (hit them with Forewarning/Cursed Earth followed by 'The Good Book(tm)' for a re-rollable 2++ save - take THAT Wraiths!)
- Seekers...
- Flesh Hounds led by Jugger Heralds w/Locus of Hatred + Axe of Khorne for ap2 + potential ID attacks.
- Seekers...
- Furies w/Daemon of Slaanesh upgrade. (super cheap Jump Infantry with even more Rending attacks)
- Plague Drones.
- Did I mention Seekers are really, really good? And cheap to boot?!
Heavy slot has:
- Soul Grinders. Just don't mark them Khorne for obvious reasons...
- Daemon Prince with same mark as your HQ Greater Daemon.
Add in the ability to spam WC's like no other army alongside liberal helpings of Malefic/Divination/Telepathy, and Daemons can tear most any list a new one.

I'll put my unit of 10 warsythe lychguard led by zhandrekh in a decurion against any unit in the game in CC and expect to come out on top. Sure, with limitless points or restrictions anyone can make a crazy deathstar but this setup is a mere 400pts to make such a boast.

Most damage output: Repentia.
Most likely to survive: Wraiths.
Honestly, though, the best assault unit is a resilient Imperial CC unit like Hammernators or Thunderwolves, with Litanies-equipped Ministorum Priest support.
