Hi all,

I'm working on a list for some events using the adepticon format. I'm interested in how important the culexus is in the current meta game. Are deathstars with psychic power-ups prevalent enough to validate its inclusion or is an MSU format flexible enough to play to mission objectives and ignore the invisible death star? At the same time, how essential is objective secured? Is it a nice-to have kind of thing or is it essential to the functioning of strong lists?

I have been running the Culexus a lot and at least over here on the west coast we don't face that many psychic deathstars but even when I don't face psykers I find him to be an all-star. He does take a LOT of practice though. Utilizing his ignores armor saves and pseudo invisibility makes him a decent enough threat. He can often jump in and grab a small squad of infantry OR challenge out the heavy hitter (try and avoid str8 or more). Just keep in mind he is NOT invisible so str8 plates are a really easy way to get him killed. Hide him behind LoS blocking terrain etc.

Well worth the points imo! Vs a Cent star he can single handily kill it btw!

He's also good against Daemons but as iNcontroL points out, he is tricky to use. If you time it well, however, it can be devastating. I think he's worth the points in certain matchups, but you will get matchups where your opponent is just like..."hey I'm Tau/Necrons"

Tyranids don't really need their psychic powers, but Eldar are a big fan, so against Eldar, Daemons and certain SM builds, he will do a ton of work. I'd wager that you might find great utility in 1/3 of your games, but it's true that he's tough to kill and kind of a beast in CC also, so it's not an awful include even against non-psyker armies. Try play-testing versus some of the strong psyker armies to see how good he is, and then against some of the non-psyker armies to get an idea of the other end of the spectrum. Generally-speaking, if you can learn to use him well, I doubt you'll find him to be a point sink. If not, then he could be a liability even in the best of matchups.
