Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, I believe I'm following the posting rules here, if I'm not, I apologize but I couldn't find much of an answer elsewhere.
I've been away from the hobby for a good number of years and only recently picked it up again. I've been a member of the waaagh forum for 10yrs and was/am fairly highly ranked with a ton of posts. But having recently got back into the swing of things I headed on over there to share my recent work and chat....however, it seems there's very little happening there!? barely any posts and a serious decline in traffic
so my question is...(as the Irish put it)....what's the craic? what happened?
has it been relegated to the past?

It seems to me this is the place to now be judging by the traffic and posts...
so I guess I will let it go and jump onboard DAKKA DAKKA

I joined the Waaagh forums quite a long time ago too, but pretty much always found their liveliness somewhat lacking. As much as there are those who would tell you that Dakka's traffic has gone down considerably, there's still more going on here than I ever witnessed over there, so welcome to your new home!

I've always enjoyed the WAAAAGH! Forum, and the Mek's Garage has always been a really cool place to browse: some real scratchbuilding geniuses have posted in those hallowed halls through the years. Sadly, I think the years of neglect by GW's Studio writers has taken its toll on the numbers of Ork players. It's tough to be excited about an army when they've been terrible for so long

Wasn't the forum down for some time?

I believe people got in the habit of hanging out in new spots much like you are now doing.

It was a great place in it's prime though. I remember being there as the 4ed 2008 codex was leaked and then released and people who were gutted over losing the choppa rule.

I'm finding the lively place to be is Facebook, love it or hate it, its got loads of Wargaming, warhammer, modelling groups etc... to choose from and you'll be able to find a nice community to join in with or just create you own, and that's where the beauty lies as you can make your own rules and create your own community with minimal effort. Its seems lots of the traffic forums used to have has transferred over there as forums can get a little toxic with a distinct echo chamber effect going on and some have got tired of it. I know I've started to use Facebook more than forums these days as its a more pleasent experience overall.

About six months ago, Google stopped sending forums as much traffic by ranking them much lower in search returns. Dakka is more or less the biggest wargaming forum community currently in existence in terms of regular post count (AFAIK), so we weren't hit that hard. We have an active enough userbase and have added insulation in that the gallery gives us a lot more hits and redirects from images and suchlike.

Smaller forums have born the brunt of the damage though, as it's effectively started to choke off the supply of new members stumbling into forums for the first time. Or so I'm told.

great responses thanks guys. Those explanations certainly seem to account for things. I'll add myself to the facebook ork groups if that is the way forward these days....shame, I've always been a bit of a dinosaur. I really enjoyed that place back in the day. met a few nice people and even met a few at gamesday and made a full time friend of one particular 'krooza' who also left the hobby, but sadly so far hasnt returned. I had a bit of an escape from reality for a good few years adventuring and not dabbling in the web so much or paying much notice to pop culture. but im glad to be back into the hobby at least, need something to focus my waaaagh on now im so freakin placid and chilled

I hear that. I have a feeling I'll have to make some moves to the soshul meedja myself, soon.

I didn't visit Da Waaagh often, but that's one name I remember. If Krooza's left, I don't doubt that the orky side of the game is impoverished.

Ah, but there's nothing quite like a forum for a specific topic or race, to really get into the nitty-gritty. Especially one with so much mad scratchbuilding like Da Waaagh. Besides, there are bits...

... that might be debateable.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

thanks for the warm welcome

I think that was the charm of the waaagh forum for me, it was solely orks.
it'd be good here if each board had subsections by race....would make it a whole lot easier for someone like myself only really wanting to see all things green
