Subject: What can I use to produce that classic Ultramarine Blue color?

So simply put - I tried Macragge Blue and it is way to dark and violet for what I am looking for. Tried Caledor Sky and it is not quite....grey enough? not really sure its just too vibrant.
I am trying to match that classic Ultramarine blue color kinda like this color: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj4torLh5HKAhXEaD4KHWysD_4QjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.coolminiornot.com%2F99494&psig=AFQjCNHP4CHPB7ZhYeagiYCn17d88ybKnQ&ust=1452027854225975
Any ideas?
I tried like 8 different blues from the current GW line and none of them did it for me.
I'm thinking of trying the Army Painter Ultramarine blue color - anyone know if that will do it?
Thanks!
Feel free to include pictures if you have something I might be looking for, thanks!

Looks like the old Ultramarine Blue. According to the Citadel conversion chart, that should be Altdorf Guard Blue. Did you try that?

Ya it is pretty dark and violet-y compared to that light blue look.
Maybe it might work if I prime white and put it right onto the white instead of onto maccrage blue....

Did you try Calgar Blue?

How about using Vallejo or Coat d'Arms paint instead?

Ya using calgar blue was a bit too light for what I'm looking for - it didn't have enough blue pigment in it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually the odd thing was that none of the GW paints seemed to have enough blue pigment in them. If I tried to lighten the colors up they just turned more grey than that light blue color I'm looking for

You're not going to get an exact match unless you're using the original paint. You can either try Coat d'Arms who manufactured the GW paints back in 2nd/3rd edition and hope it works or you might have to settle for a close but not exact match.

Thanks, that actually does look like what I'm looking for - but it also looks like Altdorf Guard Blue so I'm thinking maybe my problem is that I'm putting it onto Maccrage Blue with black primer instead of onto white primer.

Indeed sir your base coat has a massive impact on the final color your paint shows up as.. An odd thing I've started doing is basing sprue bits then doing side by side paint comparisons. Like a color stick helps see what base works best and gives you a quick reference. Had to start this due to gas crappy color swaps and a need to keep armies consistent across swathes of time as new bits are added. Nothing worse than one squad out of color with your army.
